If you want something with a classic look, inspired by the earlier part of the 20th century, check out these Alchemy floor and table lamps at Graham and Green.

With a look that wouldn't look out of place in a 'well to do' 1930s home, the lamps are traditional in shape, not to mention heavy, with the smallert version perfect for a table, desk or bedside, the larger for an imposing floor lamp.

A classic design adapts itself to a smart bit of home design – this handmade Tube Map lampshade by The Old Lamp Shed.

As you've probably worked out, this is based on Harry Beck's 1931 design of the London Underground, which is still used, in amended form, today. The vintage print is on Italian laid paper and fits a standard lamp or large table lamp – sizes 12-inch, 14-inch and 16-inch are available.

A very distinctive piece of lighting for very little outlay – this Putzler and Peill glass ceiling lamp.

A 1970s design, the shade is made of transluscent white glass decorated with grooves in a swirl pattern on its bottom, a chrome cone of attached to the top, which is suspended via the cord and a white plastic ceiling cone.

Described as being in good condition and in full working order, it's up for just £1 right now. An absolute steal if you're looking for a 70s-style fitting.

eBay watch: 1970s space age Pfaffle alarm clock lamp

A design that could only have come out of the 1970s – this Pfaffle alarm clock lamp, which is up for grabs on eBay for not a lot of cash.

According to the seller, the lamp was designed by Knox for Pfaffle, a mix of chocolate brown plastic for the structure and brushed aluminium for the lamp section. Not just a lamp though – this is an alarm clock too.

Designer v high street: Le Klint 1970s 172 pendant light and the Rosa light by B&Q

We have featured the Le Klint 1970s 172 pendant light some time back, but now this stylish 70s pendant light has a cut-price competitor – the B&Q Rosa light.

The original 172 light (pictured left) was designed by Poul Christiansen back in 1971 and available in various sizes to fit the size of your room. All are hand-folded in Denmark from a single flat sheet of plastic and come ready-assembled in the box, along with a white flex, rise cover and an ES lampholder. Prices start at £146 but go into four figures for the huge versions.
