For sale: 1960s-designed Strarretts house in Chislehurst, Kent

Strar1

We recently featured one Norman Starrett house in Chislehurst in Kent, but now another has gone on sale – this 1960s-designed Strarretts house in Chislehurst, Kent.

Yes, the same town and the same architect, but this 5/6-bedroom house is significantly more expensive than the last one. Sat on a large, sloping plot, the house was designed back in 1962 as a ‘luxury’ house and has been ‘sympathetically maintained’ by its current owner, which is one way of saying that it’s architecturally sound on the outside, but accommodates the modern era inside with an updated layout. In particular, the garage has been turned into a studio space.

For sale: 1960s-designed house in Greatwood, Chislehurst, Kent

Kent1

Designed by Norman Starrett back in 1962, this large townhouse in Greatwood, Chislehurst, Kent is still every bit the 1960s dream.

Greatwood is a small development of 19 houses, all designed by Starrett in what is called the 'H2 Design' and arranged in small groups of staggered terraces for privacy. The three-storey houses still scream the era and offer open plan living in a way modern homes can't and don't.

Summer Ranch Batwing Top from French Connection

Batwingknit

Finding knitwear for warmer months can be difficult, with the British weather flitting between extremes. This Summer Ranch Knit Batwing Top from French Connection is an ideal choice, with some true retro appeal thrown in to boot.

The loose, light fit of the top adds to the eighties style batwing cut, with a delicate and light woolen fabric. The bright rainbow shades add some spunk, while the v-neck cut adds some much needed femininity to the oversized eighties cut.

Get it from French Connection UK for £88 in the sale.

For sale: Apartment in 1930s modernist Taymount Grange block in Forest Hill, London SE23

Tay1

You can grab yourself an apartment in an interesting and lesser-known modernist gem in the capital, specifically a two-bedroom place on the third floor of Taymount Grange, Taymount Rise, London SE23.

Designed by George Bertram Carter as a 'master and servant' dual room set-up and built between 1935 and 1936, Taymount Grange still screams the era in both shape and detail, but it's also a clever design too, with plenty of natural light and fine views over the recently-refurbished communal gardens (which are part of the deal), not to mention over the city itself.
