The London Underground Film Map by BFI and TFL

Underground

Back in January, we featured a set of homewards and gifts based on the  London Underground Film Map, everything from a travel wallet to a set of placentas. But you can aso get the actual London Underground Film Map by BFI and TFL too.

As we said last time, this is a unique reinterpretation of the famous London Underground Map with all the station names changed to represent the past 70 years of films shot on location at or near London Underground Stations. If you're a film fan, it's a dream.

The finished item is sized at 100 x 70cm, selling for £9.95.

Newgate Underground Station clock

Underground station clock
Newgate are well-known for their vintage-inspired clocks. There's no prize for guessing where the idea for their new Underground Station clock comes from.

Increasingly a rarer sight in stations, this clock replicates some of the old tube platform clocks. It's got bold black hands and markers, with red 24-hour numerals around the clock face and even reads 'Tube Station clock' along its bottom rim. It's been artfully distressed to give it a vintage look too.

No need to search one out in salvage yards, this one comes ready made and aged for £55.

Art for All: British Posters for Transport

Art for All

If the Modern British Posters book and exhibition appealed to you, here's another book focusing on the topic, Art for All: British Posters for Transport

As the title makes implies, the emphasis here is on posters designed for London Underground and the railways, dating from 1908 when the publicity programme was started by London Underground. Its 208 pages feature many well known poster works, it also examines great examples of the work of McKnight Kauffer in more detail.

Offering a great overview of the topic, the book accompanies an exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art in America and uses work from their collection, alongside images from the London Transport Museum and National Railway Museum in York.
