Conran Shop Marilyn Trunk

Conran-Trunk
Truly the stuff of fantasy, the Conran Shop's Marilyn Trunk is the perfect piece of luggage for travelling by ocean liner from London to New York. Crafted from walnut wood and veneers in a 1920's style, the trunk is inspired by the golden age of transatlantic travel.

Realistically most of us are not really in need of such a fantastic piece of luggage but it does make a stylish and relatively compact dressing table measuring W55 x D63 x H113 cms. It has plenty of storage for make-up, toiletries and accessories and best of all,  a secret drawer to keep your jewellery in.

Living the Gatsby life doesn't come cheap – the trunk costs £2,395 and you can find it here.

Hang-It-All limited edition with walnut spheres

Eames Hang-It-All

Can you improve on a design classic? Herman Miller are giving it a go with their limited edition of the Eames' iconic Hang-It-All design

Designed in 1953, the Hang-It-All was intended to encourage kids to hang up their colours, through its brightly coloured wooden spheres. This limited edition is definitely one for grown-ups then, as the coloured spheres have been replaced by a solid walnuts balls. The more somber look is reinforced by the black frame.

I can't help thinking the make-over loses the original object's sense of fun somewhat but if you like the look, better snap one up soon as it's only going to be in production until early 2011.

And better start saving too, as this edition will set you back $249.

Slice chest and side table by Wales & Wales for Heal’s

Slice_heals

We’ve already featured the Robert Welch Hobart candlestick and the Heals: 200 Years book, but here’s another product that’s come out of Heal’s bicentenary celebrations. Part of the Heal’s ReDiscovers collection, the Slice chest and side table has been designed by Wales & Wales and is inspired by Christopher Heal’s multifunctional designs.

The chest and table are made from walnut but the orange lacquer detailing sets them apart. It’s a touch that’s been used in some of Wales & Wales’ other work that seems to work particularly well on these pieces.

As you might imagine, this doesn’t come cheap. The side table costs £495 while the tall 6 drawer chest is £1495 and the wide version is £1795.

Deco-style console table from Dwell

Dwell console

Dwell frequently crops on this site for its reasonably priced furniture with a 60s and 70s look. So it's a pleasant surprise to see them referencing a slightly older era as part of their new autumn collection with this console table. The clean lines of its walnut sloping legs combined with the black tempered glass top means the table gives more than a nod to Art Deco style. It's an elegant design and it will be interesting to see if they produce other items of furniture along these lines.

Though it's a slightly different look to some of their pieces, the price remains just as accessible at £179.
