Marks and Spencer Block Print Dress

Block_print_dress

Block prints might be one of the most obvious ways to get some 60s mod style, but when they’re one right there’s nothing more striking. This Marks and Spencer linen dress is a bit of a grown up version of a very moddish classic.

The silhouette is simple and square for a sixties feel, while the slightly longer hemline makes it much more suitable for frequent wear, whatever your age. The use of monochrome colours in the print makes this a bold, strikingly modernist item that needs no accessory.

It’s at Marks and Spencer now for £29.50.

Christian Louboutin Peplum T-bar sandals on sale

Louboutin_peplum

Christian Louboutin‘s high heels have become one of the most coveted luxury items in the past few years, but for retro lovers the choice among his well crafted shoes is somewhat limited. Beyond the (admittedly fantastic) basics, many of his designs are garishly modern. These Peplum shoes, however, are anything but.

Clearly inspired by 20s and 30s style, the design uses art deco motifs and lines on both the peplum design on the vamp, and in the strap shapes. The result is an eye-grabbing instant classic that doesn’t fall foul of fashion’s ticking clock.

They’re available online in the Net-a-Porter sale now for £315.

Miss Selfridge retro sale items

Selfridge_sale

For shopping January means only one thing – sales. There’s no better way to beat the impending post Christmas blues, and there’s been a wealth of retro influence on the high street this Winter season. Miss Selfridge has plenty of their great designs still in the sale online and in the shops.

Twenties and thirties style was big in the store this Winter, and their deco print tea dress (back view shown) and this lace sleeve cardigan are two of the best. Otherwise, there’s some more relaxed knitwear taking inspiration from the 1960s and 70s in the shape of cardigans and tops.

Crinoline Skirt by Betsey Johnson

Crinoline

Layered underskirts are an absolute must when it comes to fifties wardrobes, but sometimes the cheaper versions are definitely something you want to keep under wraps. For great looking layers you won’t mind showing off, this Betsey Johnson crinoline skirt is ideal.

Whether you wear it alone or as an underskirt, the shape and volume really make this special. The use of lots of layers of nylon, as opposed to tulle, give this a more expensive, genuine vintage look and feel.

It’s new in at Betsey Johnson and costs $190.
