See by Chloé Waffle skirt

Waffle skirt

A-line skirts and floral prints have gone hand in hand since before the 1950s, and continue to be a hit with designers and the high street alike. This brand new Waffle skirt from design house Chloé's See diffusion line, is a great piece for Spring and Summer that's got just enough retro chic to wear anywhere.

Made in a classic and understated shape, this is a more everyday version of the classic, voluminous circle skirt made so popular amongst 1950s looks. With a bold, bright floral it's given a punchier update without veering off into the horribly modern.

Coco quilted chain bag from Urban Outfitters

Coco bag

When the high street shops get away with blatantly ripping off design classics it causes confusion and quite the rift of opinion. However, if you're never going to afford the original, this imitation of the original Chanel 2.55 bag from Urban Outfitters isn't a bad replacement.

Originally launched in 1955, the now ubiquitous quilted Chanel bag is as popular as ever, and of course gets ever more expensive. This Coco bag is a much more purse friendly lookalike, and has all the style hallmarks of the original, down to the distinctive strap.

It's available in both colours from Urban Outfitters UK for £52.

Miu Miu oversized retro sunglasses

Miu miu

It's around this time of year that the big design houses start reminding us what Spring/Summer dressing is all about, and in accessories that means the advent of brand new sunglasses. Oversized retro numbers for the ladies aren't going anywhere, and Miu Miu's new pairs are the perfect vintage homage.

These two pairs are new in at ASOS and take obvious inspiration from the sixties and seventies. Their seventies pair (left) have an added angular detail that makes them a truly genuine reproduction. With the use of classic tortoiseshell on both sets of frames, these make classics that avoid datedness easily.

They retail at £107.66 each.

Ginny H Marilyn Dress coming soon at Neiman Marcus

Ginny h

Neiman Marcus have already begun previewing this Spring's designerwear, and there are some real treats worth looking forward to. This dress, by lesser known New York designer Ginny H, is a vibrant, colourful way to say a welcome goodbye to the Winter months.

The Marilyn dress combines a flirty, babydoll shape that's reminiscent of Mary Quant in its youthfulness, with a fantastic retro print. The orange based colour scheme is the firs of many signs that the sixties and seventies favourite shade is going to be big again in 2009.

Some_like_it_vintage

Most vintage purveyors, be they online or on the high street, are stuck with an awful lot of 1980s tat these days. The internet, however, has allowed us all access to those few far flung places where there's still gems from every decade to plunder.

Some Like It Vintage has a great choice of vintage items from the 50s, 60s and 70s, and some even earlier. They've also thrown in some more modern pieces that are suitable retro, too. Featuring both men's and women's clothing and accessories, there's an impressive haul that's definitely worth a look.
