I’ll own up and let you know that I wasn’t aware that British fashion royalty, Ossie Clark‘s label had continued after the great man’s passing. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon their latest collection, and found that it has lost none of what made the man’s designs great.

Clark’s speciality was flowing, flattering pieces for women of all ages, shapes and sizes. His mastery in cutting made his clothing some of the best made in the history of clothes design in this country. This Happening dress retains the fairytale flow of his original designs, and a fantastic print to boot.

Contrary to its name, many of the clothes in the current collection by the brand American Retro are disappointingly modern looking. One exception is this Silk Floral Print Tunic.

It is mini in length but with long sleeves and a fold-down collar that make it a more modest design. The print is a bold purple flower, the colour of which is described as “prune” set against a 60s-style swirl in black and white.

It costs £220 and is available in UK sizes 6 to 12 from ASOS.

Now that we’ve entered fashion’s Autumn/Winter season, coats and jackets are available everywhere, but that doesn’t always guarantee you’ll find something worth buying. If you’re on the hunt for something a little more unusual than most, this Nanette Lepore Violet Eyes coat is a great choice.

In a brocade fabric, both the print and shape make this a great retro piece. Combining a muted mix of paisleys and florals on a sheen brocade, the shape is kept simple with a dolly style A-line and assymetrical fastening. The single button, collar shape and darts at the bust create a great quality shape too.

For a more simple, day dress look than the Madonna inspired Urban Outfitters dress, this little retro piece from Miss Selfridge is much more appealing. With a simple shift shape, and inspiration from a few decades, it’s a mishmash of styles that works well.

Taking the loose shift, drop waist and pleated skirt of the 20s and 30s, the dress adds some texture and frill with the lace trims. With a high collar and monochrome detailing, it’s a simple, stylish daywear look that’s versatile and very vintage inspired.
