Art Deco design always has a glamour that is seductive, harking back to more refined times. Jewellery designer Laila Aitken, working under the name of Delaila, has been heavily influenced by art deco designs in her range of Fan Fair Jewellery.

Seventies inspiration is going through something of an explosion among the fashion houses this season, from great prints to slightly questionable jumpsuits.

Mary Brown (aka Portobello Mary) was a well-known figure at Portobello’s Saturday market, living and working there from 1957 until her death last year. She left behind a considerable amount of stock she had collected over the years – and some of that is available to buy online.
The Portobello Mary auction is being run by London-based Auction Atrium online and the eBay-style auction ends over today and tomorrow (March 4th and 5th). I’ve just had a look and many of the pieces have low bids or indeed no bids, so there’s still time to pick up a bargain. In fact, the art deco purse pictured here currently has a price of absolutely nothing – so just £1 could secure it.
