1960s-inspired fashion seems to be everywhere, but you don’t tend to get much of a 1940s vibe on the high street – with the exception of this 40s-style Tea Dress from Topshop.

Obviously there aren’t as many tea dances to attend these days (unless you count Mrs Boon’s Tea Party), but you could get away with this black floral frock just about anywhere. The dress has a ‘cut-out’ detail at the back, a waisted belt and is made of 100 per cent polyester (so it can go in the washing machine).

Some times it feels like the rain will never stop and one days like these, there is no point in ruining a decent pair of shoes. But what to wear instead? Wellies? There is certainly plenty of choice out there although many designs are in danger of being too twee or straying into novelty territory.

Not these Red Lace Up Wellies though. These are infinitely tougher looking than your average Wellington boot, reminiscent in fact of the cherry Doc Martens beloved of many a punk or skinhead. Guaranteed to turn heads in a very retro way is this eye-catching Moncler 70s-style short jacket.

Aimed very much at the winter reveller, the short jacket is a very bright orange with contrasting black ‘popper’ fasteners, zip front, high neck and a hemline that’s designed to sit on your hips. And on a practical note, there’s enough padding to keep you warm when the temperatures drop (or if you happen to spending time in a ski resort).

The only downside is the price – it retails for £415.
