Spring Court – Lennon’s Abbey Road trainers

Springcourt
The influence of Spring Court’s trainers has extended way beyond its native France. Yes, Serge Gainsbourg wore them, but so did a number of British Mods in the 60s – and most famously of all, John Lennon was photographed in a pair on the cover of the Abbey Road album.

They’ve been on the market for 70 years and are still available today with the trademark four-hole ventilation (which was introduced in 1952). And for a design classic, why not check out the Spring Court Lo Cut.  A white canvas upper, gum sole and vulcanised rubber outsole – and as comfortable as anything you own.

Also available in different colours, you can pick up a pair for around £40.

Biba purple, silver and black print dress

Bibadress
For our final choice we have decided to go for something a bit different. This isn’t your usual party dress, but if you want some 70s inspired style this dress from the new Biba collection fits the bill.

With a purple, silver and black print on a silk double jersey tunic, it is unusual and will give you the laid back rock chick, with style look. It has tie detail on the collar and also on the sleeves, and is sexy in an understated way.

This again is a bit of wish list dress, as it is £330, but it is Christmas and so it might be one to splash out on. It certainly isn’t something that everyone will be wearing so if you want to be sure that you won’t face the embarrassing moment where you realise someone else at the party has the same dress on, this could be the one to go for.

It is available directly from Matches website where you can order online.

Muji’s retro Round Pouch bags

Muji_bag
When you think retro fashion, you don’t instantly think of Muji. But amazingly, the store currently stocks these incredibly retro-styled Velour Round Pouch bags.

Looking like something you’d have found on the shelf of a 60s boutique, the bag is made from a velvet velour and available in two sizes (small and medium) and two colours (black and brown). But the big selling point is that shape – a real eye-catcher.

Available now for £12 and £17 respectively.

DR Foster dress from LK Bennett

Lkbennettdress For the second of our dresses this week we have gone for a 50s feel, with this DR Foster cocktail dress from LK Bennett. We normally prefer a 60s look, but this dress caught our eye, and makes a nice change from the usual shift style cocktail dresses.

This elegant dress is high on glamour, with a full skirt and bold water lily print pattern. The blue flowers definitely make a statement, and make it a great alternative to the usual little black dress.

The great thing about LK Bennett is they also do great shoes and handbags. With this dress you can get matching satin peep toe shoes and clutch bag, so you can get a complete look from one shop. Ideal if you don’t want to brave the crowds looking for matching accessories.

This dress is also more affordable than the Jaeger one we featured yesterday, at £149, but it will still ensure you look like a 50s film star at any party you choose to wear it to.

You can find out more and the location of your nearest store on the LK Bennett website.

Vivianna Georg Jensen watch

Vivianna
We love beautiful design here at Retro to Go, and is doesn’t get more classically elegant than this watch, by Vivianna Torun Bulow-Hube for Georg Jensen.

The Swedish jewellery designer produced an extensive range for Georg Jensen during the 60s, but this is one of her outstanding pieces, and still looks as fresh today as it did when it was designed in 1962 for an exhibition at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs at the Louvre.

The bangle style wrist watch known as the Vivianna in tribute to the designer, reflected the sculptural confidence of the period, and the clean pure lines favoured by Scandinavian designers. It has a mirror face, which is free from numbers. The idea behind it was that a watch "should not make us prisoners of time – but liberate us"

The watch is still produced today, and is available in a range of sizes and materials. The classic is the stainless steel version, but you can now get a blinged up version in gold complete with diamonds.

You can see the full range, and find out where you nearest stockist is on the Georg Jensen website. The bad news is that, as with any classic watch it isn’t cheap, at around £1,200, the good news is that you will have something that looks great and will last a lifetime.

Revlon retro style hair dryer

Revlonretrohairdryer Everyone needs a decent hairdryer, especially if you want to keep your bob sleek and smooth, but rather than going for one that looks like all the rest why not try this retro inspired one from Revlon?

It comes in California cream (even the colour sounds retro), and although it has a great shape and chrome filter, it is all mod cons in terms of technology. Which is great news for keeping your hair looking great. The 9092U has a digital control that maintains the temperature and speed you select. It has ceramic technology for even heat and ionic technology for condition and shine without frizz, hurray!

An ideal Christmas present at only £24.95. Even better you can order it online on the John Lewis website.
