And in the modern age, is that the main reason to buy one? I don’t know. A lot of people have dispensed with their home phone lines, either for reasons of cost or practicality. But when you are putting together a retro home, is a home phone still essential? You know. I think it is.

I recently compiled a list of my top 10 retro telephone benches, which are still an attractive thing to have in your home. Especially if you have a hallway in need of a feature.

And if you have the bench, you need the phone. You can pay big and buy something like a 1960s Snoopy phone or a 1970s Ericsson Ericofon (I have one of those by the way) or you could go for something with the look and practicality – but for a lot less money. This is where this range comes in.

Range because there are plenty of colours to choose from, although the design is pretty much the same for each. The type of home telephone you would expect to find in the mid-20th century home. Unless your parents were showing off with a Trimphone.

So a wired phone with a chunky dial (no push buttons here), a proper metal ring (yes, there is a bell inside) and wiring that’s compatible with your modern-day home phone socket.

Basic in terms of functionality, strong in terms of look and these retro home phones are affordable in regard to the price. At £59.90 you really can’t argue and for that, you’ll have a talking point as soon as someone walks through your front door.

Note also that you can get similarly styled phones that work with mobile sim cards and micro versions that plug into your mobile handset.
