Market Publique launched its market place earlier this year, offering an alternative to Ebay and Etsy for vintage sellers. The site is still young and has lots of potential to expand but, although there are some quite interesting things up there, at the moment there seems to be a bit of an 80's and 90's bias as well as a shocking lack of menswear.

The dress featured is one of the more expensive items on the site, a silk and hand finished dress by American designer Adele Simpson dating from the Forties or Fifties. Market Publique offers the opportunity for sellers to put their clothing up for bids, or with a straight price, or both. This dress is selling for $348, the dollar price reflecting that the site is based out of Brooklyn, New York.

  1. Thanks for the mention! Just a note: the lack of menswear is due to the fact that we haven’t yet launched our Men’s Shop, which we’re planning to do in the next few months. As two of the three founders are men, it’s a pretty high priority for us (or at least for our closets)!

  2. Thank you for featuring us!
Yes, we are very young: Less than a MONTH old! So yes, we’re still growing. We plan to launch the Men’s site in the Summer, so be on the lookout! We appreciate your press in our early days 🙂
Although we do love our 80s, we DO have plenty of 70s:
for all those interested (just type the era in the search box, like so: ’50s’)
Also, Adele Simpson was a member of the New York Couture Group, and her dresses retailed in the hundreds even back in the day. $348 seems like a deal for a couture dress to me! The Frippery, who is selling this dress on Market Publique, is based out of Palm Springs, CA.

    Thanks again!
