Described as the 'benchmark reference on the subject', The Story of Eames Furniture by Marilyn Neuhart with John Neuhart promises to be a must-buy for anyone with an interest in midcentury design.
A huge, two-volume, 800-page set packed with more than 2,500 images, it paraphrases Charles Eames himself, explaining his life and just as importantly, the story of the furniture of Charles and Ray Eames in exacting detail.
The book was written and designed by Marilyn Neuhart together with her husband John, who both worked with the Eames Office in various capacities from the 1950s until 1978, the year of Charles Eames' death. Which inevitably offers the pair the kind of insights that just aren't available from other Eames-related books and biographies.
15 years in the making, The Story of Eames Furniture is available from 30th September 2010 via the Die Gestalten Verlag publishing house. It's discounted at Amazon, but even allowing for that, the book still retails for £119.
