A long name for a fairly straightforward piece of interior design, the Pangen suspension light by Archivio Storico for Fontana Arte.

At first glance, you might think this is a design from the early '70s. It certainly fits into that space age theme. But the Pangen is much earlier, dating from 1961 and remaining not far from contemporary ever since. Although the colour you go for might have some bearing in that.

We're big fans of the orange variation below, should you want to emphasise the retro look of the shade. Like all the variations, it is constructed from a mix of lacquered aluminium for the dome, with a diffuser in polycarbonate, finished with a chromed metal ceiling rose.

If you want one in your home, all colour options sell for £500.
