Like to consider yourself an expert in good design? You can test your knowledge with this hefty new tome The Design Book, featuring over 500 examples of classic design. 

Yep, 500 different examples drawn from the past 500 years – though one of the rules for inclusion is that the design is still in production, so the designs selected are weighted towards the twentieth-century. The likes of Charles and Ray Eames and Le Corbusier rubbing shoulders with anonymously designed pieces.

Another rule is that the items are relatively affordable, so you get paperclips, post-its and (as you can tell from the spread below) biros alongside your designer chair. Each item is given an entry, written by design experts, to explain the story behind each object.
