Yes, it might be out of the budgets of most of us, but we can still appreciate the limited edition 60th anniversary Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen.

1958 was a busy year for Arne Jacobsen, creating the Egg, Swan and Drop chairs for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which also celebrates 60 years.

But we are focusing on the Egg Chair and specifically this limited edition of a true design classic. To match the year of its ‘birth’, there are 1958 being produced, each one with its own unique number.

Of course, the design is unchanged. This is the Egg Chair as Jacobsen intended it. But the materials used are a step up. Each one is produced using a soft touch, aniline pure leather, the colour of which will darken and pick up a more ‘vintage’ look over time. The classic aluminium surface has also been plated with gold (23 karat), which adds a premium finish and of course, more expense.

As we said, this doesn’t come cheap. Design classics like this rarely do, especially when made with premium materials in limited numbers. The Egg Chair here comes with a price tag of £11,137. Nice if you can afford it, but the rest of us will have to dream and hope that the lottery numbers come up soon.

Note that if you want the matching stool, the price goes up to £13,612.
