Not just inspired. This is pretty much a copy of a top worn by John Lennon in the classic Beatles movie Help! back in 1965. For me, that 1965/66 era of The Beatles was when they were at their best musically and sartorially. Before the hair and the beards took over.

Help! remains a supremely cool movie almost 60 years on, and so does the look the Fab Four carried over the 90 minutes or so. This top is just one example of their clobber back then.

If you know the film, you might recall the sequence when the band are on bikes, escaping the baddies. And whilst on two wheels, John Lennon is wearing a top just like this. Perfect for the sun back then and ideal for the warmer weather right now too. At least when it arrives.

Note also that the top wasn’t just confined to the movie. Ringo wore what looked like the same top on their August ’65 tour of America.

Anyway, you can buy a version of it once more, part of the maker’s ‘UK Made’ line and produced from 100 per cent cotton. The top is slightly longer at the back to the front and has an ‘upward V split’ at the hem.

All the sizes are available; if you want one, the top sells for £55.
