Fancy some 1990s nostalgia? Have a look at the newly-launched New Order x Umbro football shirt collection.

I’m always amazed when New Order give their permission for things like this. Once upon a time, the band went out of its way to be as non-commercial as it was possible to be. From refusing to do encores or playing ‘hits’ to refusing to play by the rules on Top Of The Pops or signing to a major London-based label. New Order did it their own way.

But times change, and perhaps things changed most significantly when New Order did the England World Cup song for Italia 1990. One of the most defining World Cups and, arguably, the most defining (and best) World Cup song ever released.

Back then, Umbro did the classic England football shirts, and New Order wore them in the video. So it makes sense to celebrate the band, the label and the World Cup with a shirt that brings all of those component parts together.

This brings us nicely to this New Order x Umbro football shirt collection. Well, it is slightly more than a shirt collection. You can get a ‘blackout’ version of the shirt plus a sweatshirt, jacket, and a football. But the stars of the show are the shirts. Perfect for the New Order-loving football fan in summer.

A shirt with a ‘vintage’ fit of the era, it has a New Order logo to the rear, Peter Saville World in Motion Globes on the chest, as well as the Umbro branding, a contrast collar and the timeless pattern to the body.

I have also posted up a picture of the ‘blackout’ shirt. You can see the rest of that sub-range on the maker’s site if you like the idea of an all-black finish.

Limited editions, of course, so don’t hang about if you want one or more. As for the price, the shorts retail for £50 in all sizes, with the jacket and sweatshirt in black a little more and a football in black for £30.

You can browse it all at the Umbro website.
