I’m a sucker for a Lego set, especially a retro one. So this Lego 1961 Chevrolet sports car set is right up my street.
And it’s aimed at me. Well, not me specifically, but me as an adult. This is one of the new ‘Mindful’ Lego projects for adults. I’m sure some kids would happily have a go, but the idea is to create something more advanced for adults to work their brains and bring out their creativity. So the set themes are tailored too – and a super-cool retro car certainly fits the bill.
It is pretty cool too. The set captures the look and feel of Chevrolet’s ‘revered’ 1961 Cabriolet sports car, which will look great on display when you finish it. Whether that’s with a hard-top finish or a soft-top finish. That’s right; you can do both with the set.
As ever with these Lego sets, the appeal is in the detail. This replica of a vintage classic has bags of authentic features, including an opening bonnet and boot, a detailed engine bay with a spinning radiator fan and working tie-rod steering.
You can also remove the roof for access to the detailed interior with brake, clutch and accelerator pedals, gear stick, radio, rear-view mirror and working steering. And as a finishing touch to this 32cm model, you get three sets of number plates.
