Hello Easy Chair

Hello_m2

The Hello Easy Chair, with its memorable name and distinctive shape, could easily be mistaken for a classic chair design. It was, however, designed in this century, although it has an unmistakable Scandinavian style.

The chairs was designed by Busk and Hertzog and according to one of its designers, its shape is “round, open and happy like a mouth calling out to people, asking them to come closer.” The chair was commissioned by the Danish Broadcast Corporation who wanted a chair especially for Kylie Minogue, which could be another selling point if you like the Australian pop star, but I wouldn’t hold it against the chair if you don’t.

The Hello Easy Chair is available from Heal’s, priced £895 with a choice of dark lilac, violet or anthracite coverings.

Beach Hut Blue Striped Deckchair

Sometimes simple designs are the best, and this Beach Hut Blue Striped Deckchair is a good example.

The deckchair hardly deviates from the classic style. It has a wooden frame and a vintage style blue and white striped sling. The only addition to the timeless design is the cushion that is strapped to the top of the deckchair to make it more comfortable.

The Beach Hut Blue Striped Deckchair costs £60 from The Contemporary Home.

Conran Classic Bin

Classsicbin

The humble kitchen bin has been given a retro spin by a few manufacturers, opting either for space age or 1950s styles, but this Classic Bin, from the Conran Shop, takes its inspiration from a more obvious source – an old-fashioned garbage can.

Part of Conran’s Well Considered Collection, the classic bin is available in a choice of either red or black powder-coated stainless steel and holds 45 litres of waste products. There isn’t much more that can said about a bin really, but as bins go, this one isn’t bad.

The classic bin costs £35 from the Conran Shop.

Lacanche Cluny Cooker

230616024

Normally I’d take vintage over new any day, but when it comes to the kitchen, I need my mod cons, so a piece of equipment like the Lacanche Cluny Cooker would be ideal.

It combines a classic-looking style with modern functionality. It features two large oven (one gas, one electric fan), a powerful grill and 5-burner gas hob. These cookers are handcrafted in the Burgundy region of France and are available in a choice of retro colour options; ivory, black, or yellow, all with chrome finishes.

As you might expect, this sort of quality does not come cheap with the Cluny Cooker costing £5,499 from John Lewis.

Diane Goode London Cushions

5f800da853ba45d3eb06e4389be61994264b4bea

Textile designer Diane Goode has created a beautiful series of hand painted London Cushions.

The cushions are made of silk, onto which the design has been painted, taking up to seven hours to complete. There are five designs to choose from, each one taking its name from a well-known London street and featuring a nostalgic image of London with red pillar boxes and phone booths. Pictured here is the Old Street design, a 50cm square cushion with a turquoise silk reverse and a design where a moped (could it be a Vespa?) sits by an old post box. Park Lane and Berkley Square are also square cushions with electric blue and black reverses respectively. The Kensington and Brick Lane designs are rectangular cushions (60cm by 40cm) and feature exquisite floral designs alongside the retro street scenes.

All of the London cushions are priced £83 and can be bought online from My Deco.

Nest High Chair

232_15-ZM-1

There is no need to compromise on still just because you have young children as the Nest High Chair proves. Available in white or orange, it will fit in nicely with a midcentury style dining room or kitchen.

The chair is suitable for children aged from six months up to six years old; for the youngest age range use it in the high position with the tray, then from 18 months remove the tray and from 3 years onwards use it a low position.

You can buy it online from Little Fashion Gallery, priced 429 Euros, which is probably more than you would usually spend on a kid’s high chair, but at least here you will get a good few years use from it.
