Hanna Mug

Hannamugs

The Hanna Mug is designed by Hanna Werning and inspired by Swedish nature. It is available in a choice of six main colours (black, blue, green, pink, yellow and the newly added brown). Regardless of which colour you chose, the colours and pattern give the mugs a retro look.

As they don’t have a handle they probably aren’t that suitable for the usual use, namely holding a hot beverage, but they are shown in a variety of other different uses (plant pot, toothbrush holder, ice cream sundae bowl) so I’m sure you could find a place for them in your home.

They cost £7,73 each from the Scandinavian Design Center.

Marimekko Keisarinkruunu Mug

Keisarinkruunu

Moving away from the beloved Unikko print, here is another Marimekko product. The Keisarinkruunu Mug features another print by Isola, dating back to 1966.

The yellow, grey, black and white pattern doesn’t immediately suggest the Sixties and reminded me of the designs by Peter Saville for Factory Records, which isn’t a bad thing at all.

The mug is available to buy online from Saga Living for $10 (around £6).

Surrealist Duck Feet Lamp

Vlb20decayedgold

The Duck Feet Lamp isn’t strictly a retro product but it is a design that has been inspired by the Surrealists and that Dali himself would surely have loved.

The lamp’s base is in the shape of duck legs and webbed feet in a decayed gold finish. It is supplied with the pictured smoke blue silk shade, but other silk shades can be requested.

It costs just over £660 from LightingWeb.

Lighthouse Vitra Furniture Packs

Furniturepacks

Vitra is the manufacturer behind some of the most iconic pieces of design and I for one wouldn’t object to a home furnished entirely in Vitra products. This is pretty much what the Lighthouse is offering with their Vitra Furniture Packs.

The store has gathered together some of Vitra’s best products into a choice of 3 packs, each consisting of 17 different items which is enough to kit out your lounge, study, hallway and dining room. Items include chairs shelving by Eames, desk, bench and clocks by George Nelson and lighting and tables by Noguchi.

The least expensive pack (which is by no means cheap) costs £10,500, which is still a saving on the £13,010 it would cost to buy the products individually. The other packages cost £14,250 and £20,500 and represent similar savings. If you have the budge and are looking for a complete furniture package, visit

The Lighthouse website for full details of what each pack contains.

Another inventive piece of Norwegian design, the Ekstrem Chair is a striking sculptural piece, but it is also functional.

It is produced by VARIÉR who specialise in furniture that is ergonomic without being dull and the Ekstrem is a perfect example of this. Despite its unconventional looks, it is comfortable to use and is actually for sale on a number of sites that specialise in furniture that is good for your back, as well as the usual design led sites.
