eBay watch: Moller International M200x – a real space age flying car

Moller

Like many people, I was constantly sold the idea of a flying car as a child – fully expecting it to be reality by the time I hit driving age. Well, amazingly, this actually happened.

May I present the Moller International M200x – an original flying car. Looking every bit the 60s-style Jetsons vehicle, the M200x was actually created back in 1989 and has since completed over 200 flights from a vertical take-off – and no pilot training is required to fly it. It fits two people, with an advanced (at the time) computer system keeping things level and stable, producing a ride ‘like a magic carpet’ apparently.

Four days to go if you want one, with the price currently hovering around the $18,000 mark. And don’t forget shipping from California.

Gino Levi Montalcini Chichibio modernist telephone stand

Zanotta_stand

The name is something of a mouthful, but the Chichibio telephone stand by Gino Levi Montalcini is pure modernist simplicity.

It’s a functional item, every bit as useful today as it was back in 1932 – the year of its introduction. Except this stand has those sleek modernist lines and subtle curves, made from chrome-plated tubular steel, with layered plastic shelves for your phone book and phone in black or white.

The downside? Well, it’s got to be the whopping price. The Chichibio will set you back £823 – but let’s be honest, this is a design classic.

Marimekko tray table

Marimekko_table

Everyone needs an occasional table, but when they look as good as the Marimekko tray table, you might want to use the tables more than just the odd occasion.

The tray is sat on a stainless steel stand, collapsible when you don’t require it, while the top is made from laminated plywood – connecting to the legs when needed, but able to be used separately if required.

And there are plenty of designs to choose from – effectively the pick of Marimekko’s classic designs from the past 50 years. For a tray and stand, expect to pay around £190.

Jochen Rindt 1960s Shell LM jacket reissued

Shell

If you’re off for a drive in a classic open-top sports car, you need a classic jacket to keep you warm – like the Jochen Rindt Shell LM jacket.

It’s a replica of the jacket worn by German racing driver Jochen Rindt, specifically one he was photographed in after winning the 1965 Le Mans 24 hour race in a Ferrari 275 LM. It’s got the same look, along with vintage Shell logo, two external pockets and one internal pocket.

Made from 100 per cent cotton and with a quilted lining to keep you warm, it sells for £185.
