Pick up a 1980s Flipper II microcar at this month’s Classics from BCA car auctions

Flipper

If you are on the look out for a vintage car for not a lot of cash, make a note of Tuesday 22nd July, which is when the Classics from BCA car auctions take place at Blackbushe in Surrey.

There’s just about everything on sale, from vintage vehicles of the 20s and 30s through to more practical classic from the 50s to the 90s, including MGs, Triumph Stags, Jaguars, a Lotus, an original Mini and just about anything else you can think of.

But we love the quirky – like this 1982 SEAB Flipper II microcar. Out of France, the car has barely been driven, but offers economy on the open road from its 49cc two-stroke engine and practicality too with two doors, opening rear window and a luggage compartment. If you want it, it’s expected to go for between £1,250 and £1,750.

Recycled Tyre Seat – made from old scooter tyres

Tyre_seat

Old scooters never die – they just get made into stylish seating for the home, as is the case with the Recycled Tyre Seat.

The seats are made from old scooter tyres recycled from East London mechanics’ yards, then filled with a foam cushion in a colour of your choice, creating a 600mm seat that’s both comfy and convenient – when you don’t need it, just store it away.

Take your pick from a pink, blue or yellow finish, all selling for £50.

LogoBag Tipp-Kick retro holdall

Tippkick_2

Never heard of Tipp-Kick? Well, think of it as  an alternative to Subbuteo, but with kicking players and a two tone ball. It’s been around in Europe since the early 20s and indeed is still going strong – although this Tipp-Kick holdall from LogoBag owes more to its past that its present.

This canvas bag is in a bold green with contrast trim and a vintage-style Tipp-Kick logo on the front. There’s also an adjustable strap, a large storage area and smaller pocket on the side.

You can pick it up online, priced at £25.

Dr Who Tardis wardrobe

Tardis
Presumably aimed at kids, I suspect this Dr Who Tardis wardrobe is more likely to be bought by adults.

Yes, pretend you’re the doctor by nipping in and out of this self-assembly canvas construction, with the added bonus of a single rail inside for your space age clobber. Make a K9 out of a waste bin and some old wire and you’ll be ready to conquer the galaxy.

Sized at 187 x 84 x 84cm when constructed, you can pick it up for £29.99.

BMW introduces the electric Mini – but only for California

Mini_electric

Electric cars might be good in theory, but in practice they tend to look more like a child’s plaything. Until now that is – with news that BMW is producing an electric Mini.

According to Automotive News, 500 of the silver models will initially be produced – all for sale in California. They will be built in the UK without engines, gearboxes or fuel tanks, then shipped to Munich for fitting with electric powertrains.

News of wider production is expected later in the year. No news on price as yet – but they’re unlikely to be cheap.

meWOW 1950s fold-out cat sunglasses

Catglasses

A real gem of a find from Fred Flare – the meWOW 1950s fold-out cat sunglasses.

Yes, 1950s, not 50s-style – these are deadstock glasses in very limited quantities. For your money, you get the a pair of glasses shaped like a cat’s head, which you can hang round your neck. But when you need some shades, just fold them out and wear them – showing off that period leopard skin finish.

Cheap too – you can pick up a pair for $10 (around £5).
