Stromboli space age pendant light – and the cheap Rainbow equivalent at B&Q

Spacelight

It’s amazing how easy it is to get a look without paying a fortune – and this Stromboli space age pendant light and B&Q Rainbow pendant light sum it up perfectly.

For anyone wanting to go high-end, the 70s-style Stromboli fitting (to your left) offers an aluminium bowl shade with a diameter of 15.75 inches and those slits to create an interesting light effect. If you want something cheaper, the Rainbow pendant from B&Q offers similar styling, but with a single slit and slightly smaller diameter.

So what’s the difference in cash? Well, the Stromboli is offered for sale at the equivalent of £125, while B&Q’s Rainbow comes in at a much more affordable £18.98.

Holmegaard issues lost Verner Panton New Wave lighting

Panton_holmegaard

Ok, here’s the background. Verner Panton designed the New Wave lighting range back in 1984 for Danish design house Holmegaard. But Holmegaard and indeed the 1980s wasn’t ready for it, so the designs were left to gather dust in the Holmegaard basement. Until now that is.

Because it’s finally been issued by the company, looking every bit the contemporary lighting range – showing just how ahead of his time Panton was. Choose from a table lamp, floor lamp, wall lamp or pendant, all with an undulating surface that’s as much sculpture as lighting.

Prices start at £247.

Peter Blake I Love You silkscreen print

Blake_iloveyou
Prints are often a sound investment, especially when it’s the work of Sir Peter Blake – as is the case with the I Love You silkscreen print, available now from CCA Galleries.

Based on Blake’s pop art work from the early 60s, the print is bright and bold and limited to just 175 worldwide (the first 25 are already spoken for, but you can request any of the other numbers – stock permitting).

For authenticity, the 595 x 820mm print has CCA’s publisher stamp embossed in bottom right hand corner and a certificate of authenticity – but not the gallery’s website url as seen on the one here. Unframed, it will cost £795.

Timex goes retro with newly-launched Timex 80 digital watch

Timex_80

Timex has been around since the 1950s – in fact, by the end of the 50s, one in three watches bought in the US was a Timex. And the company is still making them, including the distinctly retro Timex 80.

Take your pick from blue, yellow, white, pink, black, orange or army green or if you want to go slightly more high-end (and much more 80s), you can also pick up a metallic version in silver and gold.

All pack basic digital functionality and come in an 80s-style box, selling for 45 Euros (plastic) or 55 Euros (metal) at Colette. If you want to wait for a UK distributor, Oki-Ni will be selling them from July.
