Emeco introduces Ettore Sottsass-designed Nine-0 seating range

Emeco

We mentioned Ettore Sottsass earlier this week when covering the classic Olivetti Valentine typewriter. He died in 2007, aged 90, but before his death he designed the Emeco Nine-0 seating range.

The design for all the chairs is an update of the classic (and modernist-inspired) Emeco 1006 Navy chair, used in submarines from 1944. The new versions come with a hand-brushed or hand-polished aluminium frame with a soft polyurethane seat and in some cases, a back too. The range includes stacking chairs, armchairs, office chairs and bar stools.

The chairs were on display at the Milan furniture show in April, but are just drifting into stores now. The US retailer Design Public currently stocks them, with prices starting at the equivalent of £190.

Dunlop retro Gym Bag

Dunlop

Well, Wimbledon is almost upon us – and if this was the mid 1970s, your average tennis pro would be walking out on court with something like this Dunlop Gym Bag.

These days, that Green Flash design is less about tennis and more of an all-rounder – for the gym or just for a weekend away. It has a large central storage area, lower pocket, contrasting pipe trim and double handles.

Not that expensive either – £30.

Onitsuka Tiger teams up with Tokidoki for limited edition range of trainers

Toki_trainers

Onitsuka Tiger has teamed up with Japanese lifestyle brand Tokidoki for a limited-edition collection of trainers – available from the London Onitsuka Tiger Store from this week.

The trainers are typically Onitsuka Tiger, with retro styling rooted firmly in the 1960s. The design is anything but – the work of Simone Legno and very much in the tradition of modern-day Japanese pop culture. The shoes will be covered almost entirely in exclusive Tokidoki artwork including the lining and soles, which will be protected by a clear outsole. And for Tokidoki collectors, there’s an exclusive embroidered tiger character that will only available on this footwear, as well as a co-ordinating plush toy tiger and a series of collectible characters designed by Simone Legno as part of the collaboration.

You can pick them up from the 13th June in four colourways (two unisex, two for women only), priced at £85.

George Nelson Turbine clock

Turbine

We haven’t featured anything by George Nelson for a while – reason enough to highlight this George Nelson Turbine clock, originally available back in 1957 and now back in production via Vitra.

The name is obviously no coincidence, with that ‘turbine’ look a real eye-catcher in brass. There’s also an aluminium centre and some distinctly individual hands, with the clock powered by high-grade quartz workings.

Powered by a single battery, it retails for £289.

Taito’s 30th anniversary Space Invaders Keychain Set

Space_keychain

Original Space Invaders developer Taito is selling a rather cool little 30th anniversary add-on – this Space Invaders Keychain Set.

Three keychains in the set, with the miniature aliens sat in a clear acrylic casing, each one with own anniversary tag, should you wish to save them as collectables.

These are a Japan-only release, but as ever, plenty of shops importing these, including NCSX in the US – which is selling the set for a very cheap $8.50 (around £4.50).

Bonhams vintage Motorcycle and Scooter auction

1953_vespa

If you love all things two wheels, you need to get yourself down to RAF London at Hendon to see the items available in the Bonhams vintage Motorcycle and Scooter auction.

It’s the largest one-owner collection of bikes ever to be offered in the UK, with the Professor Fritz Ehn Motorcycle Museum Collection offered for sale, along with spare parts and memorabilia. A seemingly endless selection is available to browse on the site, with the scooters outnumbered by the bikes – but if you love a scooter, there’s some really obscure models and makers. The 1953 Piaggio Vespa 125 pictured here is being offered in its original condition with Austrian plates, with an estimate of  £1,800 – 2,200.

But there’s plenty more at higher and lower prices if that doesn’t catch your eye. You can view them all (with on obligation to bid) at   RAF London at Hendon on June 28th (Post 1pm) 29th, and 30th. The auction itself takes place on the 30th June.
