James Brown’s estate goes up for sale at Christie’s

Brown_shoe

The Godfather of Soul is no longer with us, but his possessions are – and you can pick up just about everything from James Brown’s estate in an auction at Christie’s.

The James Brown Collection really does include everything – from hair care products, sunglasses and shoes (pictured above) through to stage costumes, awards and handwritten lyrics.

Highlights include the blue denim Godfather of Soul jumpsuit he wore for the 1974 concert that preceded the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman ($5,000 – $7,000), a black cape featuring Brown’s name ($15,000 – $20,000) and Brown’s Grammy awards for Living in America – also with a $15,000 – $20,000 estimate.

The auction takes place in New York on July 17th. Sadly, the full listings are not yet online, check the link below in the coming weeks to view the collection.

Dior Homme Coated Canvas messenger bag

Dior_messenger

If the vintage Olympics bags we featured yesterday weren’t high-end enough for you, the Dior Homme Coated Canvas messenger bag could fit the bill.

Similar to the Dior Homme bowling bag we covered some time back, it’s a classic messenger bag, with its retro-styled looks enhanced by a simple black finish – although the label tags will tell everyone you’ve paid through the nose for it.

The bag also has a natural trim, zip pocket, dogtooth lining and an adjustable shoulder strap. As you’ve probably guessed, not cheap at £605.

Shinzi Katoh retro lunchboxes

Shinzi_lunch

We will be drawing out the winners of our Shinzi Katoh tote bag competition later this week, but in the meantime, enjoy some new designs from the company – the Shinzi Katoh lunchboxes.

Just six of the designs shown here (out of the 13 currently available), all featuring those distinctive retro illustrations, along with a doubler catch on the side for security and pull-out containers. There’s also a choice of single or double boxes – should you be preparing food for two (or feeling particularly hungry one day).

Prices start at a very reasonable £9,95 and stock is likely to be limited.

TwentyTwentyOne one-day warehouse sale – designer classics at knock-down prices

20_sale
I’m not always convinced by warehouse sales – we went to a Heals event last week, which was pitiful. But the TwentyTwentyOne warehouse sale looks to be something else.

For one day only, you can get discounts of up to 80 per cent on design classic and stylish contemporary pieces – mainly showroom samples and ex-display furniture, lighting and accessories. Want specifics? Well, according to the company, a Hans WEegner CH37 armchair will be knocked down from £575 to £140, a set of six Aalto 611 dining chairs will tumble from £2,118 to £550 and a set of six Arne Jacobsen 3107 chairs will be reduced from £720 to £240. And that’s just three of the price cuts on offer.

Expect to queue for the best stuff from 10am (running to 4:30pm) on Saturday 19th July 2008, with the sale taking place at 18c River Street, London, EC1R 1XN.

Veja Volley retro trainers

Veja_volley

We featured the Veja Taua pumps some weeks back, but the company also has another range of retro footwear on the market – the Veja Volley trainers.

More of a sports shoe than a pump, they are based on a Brazilian trainer from the 1970s and use an organic cotton canvas upper and a sole made of wild rubber from the Amazon – because they’re also eco-friendly trainers.

Available in all white or the green and white pictured above, they retail for a very reasonable £60.
