Mod Mom’s mid-century Gracie Toy Box

Modmom

Reading through the Etsy profile, Mod Mom is a marketing executive turned stay-at-home mum and self-taught furniture designer/builder, specialising in mid-century-inspired kids’ furniture. Like this rather cool Gracie Toy Box.

Made from birch with the option of maple, natural birch or walnut staining (which also protects), the box has a slow-closing lid to avoid ‘finger mishaps’, 50s-style tapered legs and enough storage for even the most spoilt big or small kid (sized at 19.5 inches tall, 3ft high and 15 inches deep).

Available directly from the seller, it sells for $375 (around £190).

Evisu AceJet retro scooter helmet

Evisu1

Good or bad? The jury’s out on this Evisu AceJet scooter helmet.

Loving the shape, very much in the style of the classic 50s/60s lid, and ideal for matching up with a pair of plain goggles. There’s also a leather strap and tartan-style lining.

But whether the denim cover and Evisu logo is something you’ll want omn your head is open to question. Launched in Japan and available online from Japanese retailer Ripe, it retails for 42,200 Yen (which is a fairly hefty £208). More detailed images over the page.

eBay Watch: 1990 Trabant car

Trabant

We mentioned a few weeks back that East Germany’s most famous son – the Trabant – is due to be remade and relaunched. Which makes it a good time to get in first by picking up an original Trabant.

This one is one of the last to made back in 1990 and features a VW Polo engine, a new starter motor and 83,000 on the clock. But best of all, it doesn’t seem to have been altered externally – which could mean a shrewd investment as a future cult classic.

Note is it left-hand drive before you get your money out – but you could pick it up for a song with the £500 starting bid not yet in place.

Store your bits and pieces in a Cupcake Bowl

Cupcake
With their retro looks and cake-like detailing, how can these Cupcake Bowls not impress?

These muffin-shaped bowls are made of ‘lacquer’ (no, we’re not sure either), available in a range of colours and stand around 9cm tall. You can use them for just about anything too – whether it’s for foodstuff (like sugar) or just for storing your jewellery or bits and pieces.

Available online, you can pick one up for 110kr (which is around £11.50).
