For sale: Early 70s-designed house at Seasalter, Whitstable, Kent

Seasalter1

On the face of it quite dull, but dig deeper and you'll find this early 70s-designed house at Seasalter, Whitstable, Kent quite interesting if you appreciate the era.

No architect is credited, but even so, it obviously had some serious thought going into it. The four-bedroomed house is organised around a central courtyard that allows light to flood the interior, and together with the use of full-height windows, managed to create a sense of continuity between the house and its exterior. Some original features remain, including the pine panelling and exposed brick work, while many fittings have a 'period' look, original or not. But there's also been a 'sympathetic' renovation.

1950s-style Ashcott Monk shoe by Clarks

Ashcott

It's got a 1950s twist, but the Ashcott Monk shoe by Clarks actually dates back to the 1970s.

I'm guessing the shoe was brought out to take advantage of the 70s rock 'n' roll revival, as this new issue is apparently out 'to coincide with this season's rockabilly trend'. So if you want a 50s look with a 70s twist, here it is.

Made of black suede, with a monk strap, silver-effect buckle, a chequered trim and classic crepe sole, it's yours for £69.

eBay watch: 1960s Stag drawers by John & Sylvia Reid

Stag

Not an obvious lookers, but units like these Stag drawers by John & Sylvia Reid are becoming more collectible as the years pass.

This unit is part of the company's C range from the 1960s, made of oak and with some age-related marking, but overall, in decent condition. Those four drawers are extremely well made too – so plenty of storage for many years to come.

Price? Right now just £5.99.

John Lewis midcentury-style Radio armchair in orange

Radio_chair

We did feature a version of this fairly recently in a particularly bold patterned fabric, but now John Lewis is offering its midcentury-style Radio armchair in a very retro shade of orange.

Ok, it's officially 'tangerine', but you know what we mean. It's still got that cool, 60s-style shape, splayed birch legs, rounded backrest, slim arms plus a hardwood frame and foam cushioning with Dacron fibre wrap for support.

It's made to order and retails for £799, with a matching footrest coming in at an additional £399.
