We featured the dining furniture from the range yesterday, but while we were digging that out, we also noticed this similarly-styled Rigby sideboard at John Lewis.
It's new in at the store (in fact, it's actually on pre-order), once again inspired by midcentury Scandinavian design, supported by those splayed legs and constructed by in solid American oak that's veneered to create its distinctive look.
Plenty of storage within (see over the page for it open), with a price tag of £499 if you want one.
A sweet piece of vintage advertising pulled from the archive courtesy of this Lanvin Chocolate poster.
It comes from the archives of Lanvin Chocolat whose rich advertising history also features an 1970 advert featuring Salvador Dali declaring himself crazy for the product. This particular piece features Red Riding Hood feeding the wolf with the chocolate and apparently dates from 1961. Its bright colour and childish style is just as charming today.
Add some mid-century style to your house with these Flora floor tiles from Flor.
Flor are the company behind the La Fonda Del Sol and this design, featuring leaves, butterflies, birds and flowers, is also inspired by Alexander Girard's distinctive style.
The design is available in three different colourways and is sold in six tile packs: you could obviously put several packs together to cover a larger area if necessary.
Midcentury on the high street courtesy of John Lewis and the Rigby dining furniture.
Inspired by Scandinavian furniture from the middle section of the 20th century, the table offers those angled/splayed legs and curved surface, while the unusual bench has a cross-frame and curved seating, all of which is created from solid American oak.
Available online or instore, the table sells for £449, while the bench comes in at £199.
Wake up each morning to the retro looks of the cube alarm clock by Authentics.
Its design combines a number of influences: while the gently rounded corners to the cube suggest older eras, the digital display, combined with the choice of bright blue, green or yellow for the front casing, gives it an 80s twist. Somehow it all works together and it looks simple to use as well – just what you need first thing in the morning!
A new glossy illustrated book from a new publishing house, Lifestyle Illustrations of the 60s by Rian Hughes is a new take on an ever popular decade.
This book is one of the first titles to be released by Fiell Publishing, the new book enterprise from Charlotte and Peter Fiell. If their names sound familiar it's because they were previously editors of many of Taschen's design titles (including the one on Scandinavian design we featured ages ago) and now have decided to bring their expertise to their own publishing company.
Like the Scandinavian design book, this publication is jammed full of images. It features over 1000 illustrations in its 576 pages, focused on magazine artwork from that period. So while you get a survey of that decade's commercial artistic talent, you also get a sense of the social and material aspirations of that period – and how they were affected by the youthquake that took place within its years. Definitely worth a flick through then. Fans of the Fifties will be pleased to note a companion volume focusing on that decade is due in September.
