1970s-style white Flip Clock

Flip

A fairly cheap way of adding a retro touch to your bedroom – this white Flip Clock.

It could be straight out of the 1970s. Indeed, that's the idea, but the Flip Clock is actually a modern design in the style of the space age past, offering up a traditional clock coupled with the 'Flip' day and date, as well an alarm to get you out of bed in a morning. Just dopn't expect Radio 1 or 2.

Complete with red, black and chrome detailing, it sells for just £14.95.

Lotta Kuhlhorn tea towels at Utility Designs

Lotta tea towel

We've shown you some of Lotta Kuhlhorn's distinctive homewares before, including her great apple design. It's been a bit tricky in the past to find a UK stockist that carries a wide range of her products but thankfully Utility Designs has stepped into the gap.

As well as all the apples you could possibly want, there are a few new interesting products for your home, all using her trademark retro patterns. This Agneta Red Berries tea towel, for example, is one of a couple they have in stock and has a bold berry print and is sure to brighten up a kitchen.

The tea towels cost £11.50.

Deco-style teapot from London Transport Museum

Marty teapot 2

The wealth of the London Transport Museum advertising archives has been dipped into again, to produce this Deco-style teapot. It's part of a new tableware range based around the 1930s posters by Andre Edouard Marty.

The illustration on the porcelain teapot comes from the poster 'As We Dance Around', commissioned for the Underground Electric Railways Company Limited. It was produced in 1931 and the shape of the pot draws inspiration from this period.

Separate cups and milk jugs are available, each with a similar look. Each product comes in an presentation box which gives further details on the posters and artist and makes it an ideal gift for any elegant, tea-supping types you may know.

The teapot costs £32.99.

Handmade Elvis Presley lampshade

Elvis

As retro as it is kitsch, the handmade Elvis Presley lampshade can be your very own living room tribute to 'the king'.

No all-in-one sequinned catsuits here, this is a shade packed with pictures of Elvis in his uber-hip youth, that collage printed onto a shade that has a diameter  of 25cm side and a  length of 22cm, which should fit a medium to large lamp base.

Available online, you can pick one up for £30.

Tony Duquette lighting range at Remains

Tony_duquette_sconce

If you're not familiar with the work of Tony Duquette, he was a Hollywood artist and designer who worked from the 1940s up until the 1990s. Remains Lighting are now producing a range based on his original designs.

The designs are big on the Hollywood glitz and glamour so perhaps aren't suitable for those with a more minimalistic taste. The Golden Sunburst scone pictured takes inspiration from a motif in a curtain that he designed for the L.A. Music Center in 1964 and is typically ornate.

Made from hand-polished metal, the prices seem to be aimed at Hollywood stars as, for this design, they range from $2275 for a gloss white finish to $2795 for an antique brass model. Want to see it in the flesh? Although the company is based in New York, you can find details of their London showroom on their website.
