Make your own Trellick Tower stocking at the East London Design Show

Trellickstocking

The Trellick Tower on this Christmas stocking will look very familiar to regular readers of this site. Well, if you're a fan of the design, Clothkits (we featured another of their collaborations with People Will Always Need Plates on the VW dungarees earlier this week) are running Make your own Trellick Tower stocking workshops at the East London Design Show over this weekend. The workshops cost just £10 and have all the materials, equipment and helping hands necessary to craft your own Christmassy Brutalist architecture-inspired stocking.

The East London Design Show runs from the 4 to 6 December at Shoreditch Town Hall. Included in the 100 plus exhibitors are designers like Michelle Mason, Mini Moderns and Snowden Flood, all of whose work has been previously featured on this site. So, even if you don't fancy getting crafty, the fair still seems well worth a visit.

For more details and to book your place on the workshop visit the Clothkits website

Orla Kiely retro-style multi rhododendron print bed linen

Kiely-Rhododendron

We're obviously huge fans of Orla Kiely on this site and here's another wonderful new design: the multi rhododendron print bed linen. The bold retro floral pattern only arrived into stock yesterday and its colours would look great in a mid-century inspired bedroom, as shown in the image.

The bedlinen is made from 100% cotton percale. Prices range from £49 for a single duvet cover up to £79 for a super king size double. Pillowcases begin at £23.50. If this isn't to your taste, check out the Orla Kiely website to view one of the other designs, including the Car Park print (pictured over the page).

Retro robot hand warmers

Robot-handwarmers-300

Venture outside and there’s more than a chill in the air. If you liked the robot salt and pepper pots featured earlier in the week and are looking for another way to your gloves to keep your hands warm on a cold winter’s day, how about these retro robot hand warmers

They work like those hand warmer pouches you may have seen: you click a metal disk to activate the heat and they are re-usable as you place can them into hot water to reactivate. The advantage is that these are shaped like cute robots meaning there’s far more incentive for kids (or adults) to carry them around.

The hand warmers cost £6.50 from Dollydagger

Omaggio Alvar Aalto nesting tables by Fiam

Aalto_glass

Not by Alvar Aalto, the Omaggio Alvar Aalto nesting tables by Fiam have actually been created as a tribute to the modernist giant.

But this is very much Alvar Aalto, offering up those trademark curves and Finnish style that could have come straight out of the 1930s. But there is one key difference – rather than wood, the three tables on offer here are made of 12 mm-thick curved glass, adding a new dimension to a timeless look.

Want to own them? Well, they don't come cheap, with the set retailing at £2,553.

Verpan 1970s Onion table lamp by Verner Panton

Onion

We've featured the ceiling version before, but now you can pick up the Verpan Onion table lamp by Verner Panton.

Designed back in 1977 and more famous as a pendant lamp, the onion-shaped table version keeps much the same look, made of vertical strips of white metal and compressed lamellae, combining to offer up some indirect mood light, not to mention plenty of 70s style.

Complete with 2.2 metres of transparent wire and standing around 80cm high, it sells for £945.

50’s Curvy Chair at Winter’s Moon

50's chair

This rather saucy 50's Curvy Chair at Winter's Moon has been recovered in a gorgeous vintage Heals fabric called Verdure by Peter Hall. The strong red would be a great way to get a bit of colour into your home and brighten up a dull corner.

The chair is modestly proportioned so would be a perfect size for a bedroom or hallway. As with most of the furniture on offer at Winter's Moon, this chair is a one-off and epitomises their 'upcycling' philosophy of taking another man's rubbish and with a bit of creativity turning it into treasure.

The chair is priced at £320, find out more at Winter's Moon.
