Jean Prouve 1950s Trapeze table for Vitra

Trapeze

Originally designed for the Cité Universitaire at Antony, the Jean Prouve Trapeze table is reissued for the consumer market by Vitra.

Dating back to 1950, the table is very much ahead of its time, a modern-looking (almost industrial) design that mixes two distinctive legs (made of sheet steel), coupled with a laminate top with broad beveled edges.

Two sizes available, selling from £2,985.

Pebble_cream_both_size_small_cutout_

Helen Rawlinson has been selling her printed and machine stitched lampshades for over a decade, which includes this pebble design lampshade. The abstracted pebble pattern gives it a retro feel that is enhanced when the light is switched on and glows through the gaps in the pattern.

The larger shade is £37 and the tall base (35cm) is £38 whilst the smaller drum shade and base together costs £62 or, if you are a real fan of the pattern, her collection also includes printed purses in the same design.

Swallow and Amazons mugs

Pigeon post

From Art Meets Matter, the people behind the original range of Penguin book jacket mugs, comes a range of mugs based on Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons' books. The design is very distinctive and first appeared in the late 1930s, each book featuring a montage of Ransome's own illustration against a different colour.

The full range of four titles can be viewed on the Art Meets Matter although when I looked they were out of stock. If you are desperate to get a sailing fix, the Pigeon Post and Winter Holiday titles are available from Objects of Design for £8.25 each.

The Doily isn’t dead print

THEDOILYISNTDEAD

Does the phrase The doily isn't dead cause you to whoop with joy or shudder with fear? Doilies, or least doily-like paper cutting seem to be creeping back into design and homes and is celebrated in this print, otherwise known as 'Punk Doily'.

The work of Bianca Hall, operating under the name 'Kiss Her', this print moves away from the Miss Haversham image with a vibrant colour (it's also available in lemon yellow). Choosing to mark your allegiance to the doily cause by purchasing this print will set you back £40.

1970s Trimphone returns at Colloco

Trim1

A relic of a bygone era will return in a slightly adapted form very soon – the 1970s Trimphone.

It's being brought back at Colloco, offering much the same in design as you probably remember from growing up, including that geometric design, the handset resting across the top of the phone and as a nice finishing touch, the centre disc for your phone number and the number of the emergency services.

This being 2009, the dial has gone, replaced with push button controls that look like a dial from a distance. After all, what would you do without that hash key? They will be available in purple, green, pink, white, turquoise and red from August, priced at £38.95 each. See over for another of the colour options.
