Offside – the table football coffee table

Offside

Looking to liven up the TV ad breaks? You need the Offside coffee table.

As the name suggests, this is a coffee table…with table football. Yes, beneath that solid oak and glass structure is a fully-functioning footie table, complete with  wooden players, goals, scoreboard, steel handles and a mirrored pitch. Just drop in the ball and you’re away.

And when the TV livens up again, it’s back as a coffee table, with plenty of surface area for your food, drinks and magazines. Not the cheapest coffee table you’ll see at £1,495, but certainly the most fun.

KnollStudio Sample Sale – bag some mid-century bargains

Tulip_plat
Looking for some classic design at knockdown prices? You need to make your way to the KnollStudio Sample Sale at the showroom in Smithfield, London.

It takes place on Saturday, 6th December 2008, running from 10am until 1pm. Not much of a clue as to what will be available, but as Knoll is the sole licensed manufacturer of the likes of the Barcelona Chair, Wassily Chair and the Saarinen Tulip and Bertoia Collections, you could have some iconic pieces of furniture at ‘greatly reduced prices’ by Christmas. The only difference is that these are ex display and photoshoot samples, so if you can deal with a few fingerprints, get in there.

And if you get in there early enough, you could pick up the ‘star buy’ of a Black Leather Barcelona Chair for £750 – well worth missing a couple of hours sleep for.

Patrick Schuur Cassette Tape Closet – made of old tapes

Cassette_closet

Clever design with a distinctly retro vibe – the Cassette Tape Closet by Patrick Schuur.

It’s described as a ‘project’ (which might mean it isn’t available), but when it does hit the market, you can pick up a large storage unit packed with 918 vintage cassettes (yes, real ones) fixed to the wooden exterior, creating an item that’s part art and part functional design.

If you want to get your name down for one (or just want to find out how much this unique item will cost), get in touch via the website.

Charlotte Perriand 1930s Riflesso container unit

Riflesso

On the face of it, a contemporary storage system, but the Cassina Riflesso container unit was designed way back in 1939.

The work of Charlotte Perriand, the Riflesso has a black painted wood exterior with satin-finished aluminium doors and clear painted aluminium shelves, producing a look that’s still popular today (I have a Merrow Associates sideboard that’s almost identical in construction).

You can use the unit on the floor (via high and low support feet) or you can fix it to a wall using a metal frame. And it retails from £2,931.

Scirocco Brick – Lego-style radiator

Lego_radiator

Ideal for a kid’s room, even better for big kids, the Scirocco Brick certainly adds a retro vibe to any room. Whether it sits well next to your Eames chair or Knoll sideboard is another matter.

Designed by Marco Baxadonne for Italian radiator maker Scirocco, it’s got substance to match its quirky looks – an aluminium casing concealing copper pipes to offer up plenty of heat.

And you can have it any size you want – each ‘brick’ has a double plumbing connection, so you can connect as many as you like together to create your own Lego design. No price as yet – keep checking the company’s website.
