Wharfside Assisi 1350 – 60s-style TV stand

Assisi

Wharfside has been selling furniture since the 1960s, much of it made by skilled craftsmen in Scandinavia. Indeed, the Wharfside Assisi 1350 certainly has the looks of a 60s Scandinavian piece.

I’m talking about that rather stylish curved wood exterior, with sliding ‘tambourine’ wood doors that allow for discreet storage of DVD players and other television equipment.

Take your pick from solid cherry, oak, beech or walnut, all with metallic base, selling from £2440.

Yesterday’s News Coloured Pencil Set

NewspencilsUnless you are an artist, you may not have had much call for coloured pencils since you left school, but this set is definitely aimed more at adults than school children. Called “Yesterday’s News”, the set of 12 coloured pencils are made from recycled Chinese newspapers!

Each pencil is produced using tightly wrapped sheets of newspapers, so the print features censored journalism, classified ads and table tennis results. They are supplied in a tube also made from recycled newspaper.

They would make an interesting gift and only cost £2.35 from the Days Gone By Shop.

Alexander Girard’s La Fonda coffee table

Lafonda_table

A while back we featured the reissued La Fonda armchair by Alexander Girard. If you liked that, chances are that you’ll also like the newly-reissued La Fonda coffee table.

The tables were commissioned for the La Fonda del Sol restaurant at New York’s Rockefeller Center and developed in the Eames office in 1961. That resulted in the striking chrome die-cast aluminium legs and Carrara marble top, standing at a height of 65cm and with a diameter of 45cm.

And it is available again, courtesy of Vitra. Price is around £1,254.
