Morphy Richards modernist Manhattan kettle

Morphy_manhattan
I’m guessing someone at Morphy Richards had an old Bauhaus catalogue open when they designed the Manhattan kettle.

It’s very much the modernist design, oozing 30s cool with those straight lines, shiny chrome and non-nonsense looks. In terms of features, it has twin viewing windows, a cool touch handle, removable limescale filter and a 3.1kw element for speedy boiling.

But the looks alone should sell this. It retails for £55.

Shag Japan-only tiki mugs and collectibles now on sale – for a limited time

Shag_tiki
If you are quick, you can bag some real Shag rarities – these Japan-only tiki mugs and collectibles.

They were made exclusively for the Japanese market, with a clause blocking their sale outside that country. But a limited amount of stock has been released, which you can order now. Some lucky people will be able to order the complete set – sure to be collectors’ gold dust. The rest will be sold as individual items on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

The image here shows all the pieces, but if you want to get up close, check out larger images at the site, then get your credit card out – I doubt these will last the day.

Dedalo Stick/Umbrella Stand

DedaloThe Dedalo Stick/Umbrella Stand came onto the market in 1966, the year after the Kartell Umbrella Stand we featured the other week.

Designed by Emma Gismondi Schweinberger for Italian manufacturer, Studio Artemide, it was available in several colours. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem t be in production anymore (it certainly doesn’t seem to be available in the UK) so if you want one of this pods to store your umbrellas or walking sticks, you will have to buy a vintage one.

Spirografica currently have an orange one for sale, in excellent condition complete with its original box, for which means you have to pay handsomely for it – £145. They do crop up on Ebay from time to time too so it may be worth looking out for a cheaper one there.

Pascal Tarabay Birdhouse cuckoo clock

Birdhouse_cuckoo
The classic cuckoo clock is back with a twist as the Birdhouse cuckoo clock by Pascal Tarabay.

Just like the traditional cuckoo clock, the board pops out every hour to inform you of the time, but unlike the old version, this one has some new technology on board – a light sensor which stops the noise during the hours of darkness.

Add to that the traditional ‘house’ shape and retro-styled digits and you have one very cool clock. It’s available in a choice of colour from Snow Home for £115.

Going for the vintage film studio look in your house or flat? Well, this Porthole floor lamp from ILVA should fit in perfectly.

Yes, it’s designed to look like one of those powerful lights used in old movie studios, with a tripod-style based, antique silver finish and a strong adjustable lights at the top.

You can pick one up for £299. And if you can’t make it to an ILVA (as there aren’t many around), you might like to know that they now do home delivery – for this particular item, it’s an additional £5.

Colombo One and Two – Joe Colombo-inspired home phones for £40

Colombo2_2

It’s rare to see just one stylish home phone, so we were amazed to find two heading to the shelves – the Colombo One and Colombo Two.

Both are the work of ChauhanStudio and will be in the shops from March. The designs (as the names suggest) are inspired by the work of Italian space age designer Joe Colombo – there’s even a ‘Boby Trolley’ colour scheme for one of the handsets. The Colombo One is pictured above, which is a more angled handset with a flat base, the Colombo Two is similar, but with a more upright shape.

But best of all is the price – both will sell for around £40 on the high street, which sounds like great value to me. You can find out more and see an image of Colombo One over at Switched On Set.
