If you think the PK8 chairs and PK58 table from Fritz Hansen have the look of the 1970s, you’ll be right – because they’re based on designs from that decade.

The designs were the work of Poul Kjaerholm and date back to 1978. However, they never made it into production due to the cost of the work involved creating the curves. But the 70s’ loss is our gain, with the dining set making it into the new Fritz Hansen range.

The table has a strong white polyester composite top and aluminium base, while the chairs are made of a strong plastic material with an aluminium base, both available in either black or white.

A stunning design, but at a price – chairs retail for £532 each, with the table retailing  at £2,163.

Cool design doesn’t have to cost a fortune – check out this Cubik table lamp as a prime example.

Designed by Luc Gensollen, the lamp has a base of polished aluminium, with a clear bulb giving out the light, complemented by a transparent cable.

The whole thing has a modernist vibe to it, but whether you’re going for a 30s look or something more modern, £55 seems a reasonable price to pay for a very stylish piece of lighting.

Looking for a light to fit in with your 70s space age vibe? Check out this Gap 66 lamp.

It’s a great throwback design by Alexander Seifried, available in a choice of colours – red, white and orange – with the cover made of a chintz fabric, set on a metal frame.

With a name like the Twiggy lamp, you would expect this to be a product of the sixties. But it’s actually a very modern piece of design.

The work of Mark Sadler and manufactured by Italian firm Foscarini, it’s not unlike the classic 60s Arco lamp, with that big overhang, but a more traditional shade and much thinner stem.

Made of glass fibre and chrome and available in a choice of four finishes, the Twiggy lamp retails for £764.

We featured the Hotel Royal in Copenhagen as a retro retreat, a hotel that owes its look and feel to Danish designer Arne Jacobsen. And if you want some of that style in your home, you can have it with this Arne Jacobsen Hotel Royal pendant light.

This acrylic light dates back to the original hotel design in 1959, more specifically for the hotel snack bar, where this four-piece cube-shaped light illuminated the sandwiches of the great and the good of Copenhagen society.

If the idea of waking up to some early morning DJ doesn’t appeal or you just want to invest in a smart travel timepiece, you might want to check out this Monza copper alarm clock.

Monza because it is reminiscent of the clocks in vintage racing cars and copper because that’s that the outer casing consists of (or you can opt for a gunmetal finish instead). Combined, it’s a very cool clock.
