Surface View and Wayne Hemingway produce retro pop culture murals

Hemingway_installation

Looking for a large feature for your home, business or club? Check out the retro pop culture murals from Surface View.

The murals are based on classic images housed on Wayne Hemingway’s and Stella Mitchell’s Land of Lost Content British Cultural memorabilia site, including everything from vintage postcards and book covers to vintage and kitsch artwork, including the Vladimir Tretchikoff image above.

Surface View has digitally re-mastered the images into high resolution files enabling the pictures to be cropped and enlarged for a suitable mural size. And they can also be tweaked by a change of colour if you require.

If you’re interested, contact Surface View for a price and an idea of range.

Diferent colour schemes are available, which you can check out at the website, with each of the large cushions retailing at $170 (around £85).

Routemaster deckchair

Routemaster_deckchair
Not exactly deckchair weather is it? But we live in hope or a late summer – and when the sun does start to shine, we’ll have our Routemaster deckchair to kick back in.

The humble deckchair is retro enough, but combined with disused Routemaster bus destinations, it’s certainly a winner. And just like the old bus, you can rotate to find your dream location. As long as it’s in London.

The sling is weatherproof, with the frame made of treated beech. Available for £59.95.

Eames surfboard-like Elliptical table

Elliptical_table_rodbase

We haven’t done any Eames for a while, so a good time to featured this reissued Eames Elliptical table from Vitra.

It’s also known as the surfboard table because…well…it looks like a surfboard. It’s actually a long coffee table, designed back in 1951 and consisting of a chromed rod base and a laminate top in a choice of black or white.

Certainly not cheap at between £1,135 and £1,305, but it is a timeless piece and one that will get our visitors talking.

Keracolor Sphere round TVs – still available to buy

Keracolor

If you think about space age design, chances are you’ll think of the round TV, more specifically, the Keracolor Sphere TV range, the brain child of a man called Arthur Bracegirdle in 1968.

They burned brightly in the early 70s, with a range of models available, including floorstanding and hanging TVs, wood-effect models, even a large model with a built-in 8-track player. The TVs stayed in production before the company closed down in 1977 – but the round shells remained in storage.

But now they’re back in production, with the full co-operation of Arthur Bracegirdle and using those original shells. The difference? Well, the TVs inside are updated with modern-day technology, including Scart sockets, Teletext, Nicam sound and a remote control. Not right up to the minute technology, but certainly recent.
