Gorenje retro-style fridge

Gorenje_fridge_3 Fancy a Smeg-like fridge, but don’t fancy paying a Smeg price? You should check out the Gorenje retro-style fridge range.

This European company is making a push into the UK – and this fridge is one of its fastest-moving items. No surprise really, it’s available in a range of interesting colours, including vanilla, silver and the burgundy pictured here, it’s eco-friendly (A+ rated) and it comes with a five years parts and labour deal.

Check out the full size and specification here. And if it matches up to your requirements, here’s the good news – they’re priced between £550 and £650. That’s considerably cheaper than the lowest-priced Smeg. Is the label worth the extra few hundred quid? We don’t think so.

French Bull Robot plates

Robotplates

Yesterday we featured the Tepper Jackson retro flight bag, designed by Jackie Shapiro and Linda Tepper. Well, if you liked that, you might be interested to know that Jackie Shapiro is the designer behind the French Bull company, which produces quirky and affordable tableware for people who just don’t want a plain white plate.

Typical of the range are these French Bull Robot plates. They’re made of heavy-duty lightweight melamine with a gloss finish – and in this case, feature vintage robot designs. You get four in the set, two of which are featured above.

And they’re a decent price too – $28 for the set, which is just £14 – or £3.50 per plate.

Squares op art vase

Squares Nice to see an everyday object carry a heavy dose of retro design – which is what you get with this Squares vase.

Squares by name and squares by nature – both the shape of the vase and the op art-style black and white outer design, which combines matt white with the glossy black. And if you’re bored of the look after a while, turn it round – there’s a similar, but slightly different pattern on the reverse.

Available online, you can pick one up for £45.
