eBay watch: 1970s Philips stereo 22AF 200 portable record player

Philips1

It's go some time to go yet, but for us, this Philips stereo 22AF 200 portable record player is the bargain of the moment on eBay.

A 1970s design, but quite a sophisticated one, this mains-powered player packs away into a small carry case, looking pretty cool like that too. But open it up and you can remove the sides, which double up as two speakers, offering that stereo sound on the go. There's even dual volume controls, one for each speaker.

Sold in that orange colourway, it's currently up for just £1 (plus some postage from Germany). Yes, an absolute steal. Check out the record player opened up over the page or check out full details at the eBay site.

eBay watch: Citroen 2CV

2cv

Citroen is proudly celebrating 90 years of car making and in our local dealers, a Citroen 2CV is sat in the centre of the showroom. It's a design classic of sorts – and you can pick one up fairly cheaply.

The 2CV (aka deux chevaux vapeur) was a relic of the past even during its production years (1949 – 1990), but was advanced on its introduction, packing some impressive, easy to service engineering within that simplistic shell. It also offered soft suspension, high ground clearance and a canvas sunroof. What it doesn't offer is speed – just a 602cc engine keeping you moving.

All of which makes the 2CV an easy-to-run 'classic'. There are a number of affordable models on eBay, the one above dating from 1985 (before production left France), with 69,000 on the clock and having been 'recently restored'. It can be yours for £2,600 or your best offer. A future cult classic for sure.

eBay watch: Pair of Rodolfo Bonetto-designed Melaina easy chairs

Melaina

We've actually covered the reissue of this design before, but on right ebay right now is a pair of Rodolfo Bonetto Melaina easy chairs from the original 1970s issue, complete with a very 1970s colour scheme.

The original design by Bonetto was for Driade, with the chairs packing that distinctly 'Space 1999' look of the era, made of fibreglass and theoretically good for indoor use or out – although judging by the minor damage to these pieces, it might be wise to keep them away from the elements.

The reissues cost over £800 each, whereas these two chairs are £500 or 'best offer' for the pair. If you want more than two, the seller claims to have 'several' in stock, should you have a large family or social circle.

eBay watch: 1960s Cos.Mo desk lamp

Desklamp

Can't say I know much about the maker, but there's no denying the period charm of this Cos.Mo desk lamp.

A 1960s Italian design, it's made of stainless steel, with the base made from four segments of flattened oblong shaped steel with a jointed arm and a curved perforated steel shade.

Condition is described as being 'in great shape', but you might want to check the images on the site for a close-up look. Best of all is the price – right now it's just £3.32, which makes it an absolute steal.

eBay watch: 1960s Patrice Dupont-designed Philips UFO portable record player

Ufo

A stunning design that rarely comes up on eBay – so make sure you get a bid in for this Patrice Dupont-designed Philips UFO portable record player if you want one.

One of the space age classics to have appeared in the equally sought-after  L'utopie Du Tout Plastique book/catalogue, it's a battery-operated record player with built-in speaker, taking the shape of a flying saucer.

Described as in 'used but good condition', it's currently at £78. I suspect it might go for a little more in the end.
