eBay Watch: Dieter Rams-designed Braun SK 55 tabletop stereo system

Rams_stereo

Good design never goes out of fashion. In fact, I’d say that this Dieter Rams-designed Braun SK 55 tabletop stereo system looks every bit as stylish today as it did when it first hit the shelves.

That was between the early and mid 1960s and over 40 years later, this one is in reasonable condition, with a working record player and radio, but a few bumps and scratches, a missing weight for the tone arm and a rather untidy extended cable.

But none of that seems a big issue, with most easily repaired, leaving you with a ‘white coffin’ that’s increasingly collectable, incredibly stylish and an absolute steal at its current £8 price point (with worldwide shipping available). Check out more images via the link below.

eBay Watch: Kilfitt UKA 659 Bond-style camera watch from the 1960s

Camera_watch_60s

Never mind a camera on our mobile phone, how about one on your watch? It might sound like technology of the future, but this Kilfitt UKA 659 Bond-style camera watch is very much technology of the past.

It was a one-of-a-kind prototype developed during the 1960s in the Munich laboratory of Heinz Kilfitt. The watch has a small analogue camera attached to it with 1.3mm-10.5mm lens, a shutter speed from 1/15 sec to 1/1,000 sec and a custom film disc. Oh yes – and there’s a watch too.

A great Bond-style gadget and a unique item too, but with a price to match at a whopping $60,000 – which is just short of £30,000. Maybe that price will come down if no-one bids.

Selcol’s 1964 Beatles New Beat guitar

Beatles_beat

Want to play just like The Beatles? Well, there’s little chance of that with Selcol’s Beatles New Beat guitar.

This is an original piece of Fab Four memorabilia, dating back to 1964 and now extremely rare. Because lets be honest, no-one ever looks after their toys. Officially licensed and measuring 32 inches in length, the guitar has just four strings, a logo and some mock autographs to the face.

So can it be used to play anything at all? Well, it does come with a lyric sheet and chords for five songs, so it probably can. It also has its original coffin-shaped cardboard box, albeit with some slight wear and tear. Not the kind of thing that appears all that often – so the price of £750 is probably about right.

eBay Watch: Dieter Rams Braun design poster

Dieter_rams_poster
A nice mix of art and design on eBay, this Dieter Rams Braun design poster.

I’m presuming it was printed around 1975, with the poster showing designs made by the designer for Braun from 1956 to 1975. Incredibly stylish poster too, an eight-colour offset print with what you would probably call technical images of the hi-fi equipment designed by the man over this period.

Sized at 60 x 84cm and apparently unused, there are a few of them for sale, each currently selling for around £14. Sounds like an absolute bargain, not to mention a shrewd investment.

eBay Watch: Vintage robot lamp

Robot_lamp
Remember the robots off the Cadbury’s Smash ads? Well, there’s a lamp that looks very much like one on eBay right now.

This vintage robot lamp has rather vague details from the French seller, but we are told that this is ’60s or 70s’ and is made of a metal/chrome mix, with hard plastic legs. And it works by opening the mouth – the wider you open, the brighter the light.

It’s obviously caught the imagination, with the price around £70 with seven days left. But if you get it, you can safely assume no-one else will have one.

eBay Watch: 1952 vintage pin-up calendar

Vintage_calendar
Thanks to Kavel for pointing out that 1952 has the same day order as 2008 – so you can actually use this 1952 vintage pin-up calendar next year.

It’s also a great piece of art that’s very ‘now’, with the calendar (designed for the Tri-State Liquor Store) featuring 12 girls, with all drawings by Elvgren. The only damage is a slight tear to the month of June – which isn’t bad for a paper product that’s around 55 years old.

Still some time to go for this auction, the price currently stands at a very low £5.53.
