Giant Lava Lamp

P2919_main
Back in November, we reported on Mathmo’ re-launched lava lamps, but it seems that wasn’t all – they have also supersized the iconic design.

The Giant Lava Lamp stands at around 2 metres tall and 20cms diameter – the picture above gives an idea of its size compared to a regular sized lava lamp. Because of its size, it works with a different formula to its smaller relative, so need to be filled onsite and cannot be moved afterwards. Probably not something many people could accommodate in their homes, but if you run a retro nightclub or bar, it could be just the thing to complete your decor.

The Giant Lava Lamp comes with a similarly large price tag – £3,380, but for that Mathmos will design the base and cap to your specification and you get to pick the colour of the liquid and floating globules. Enquiries can be made via Firebox.

iSupr8 app – more Super 8 movie shooting for your iPhone

Isupr8

You might recall the 8mm Vintage Camera app we featured a few weeks back. Well, now there's another operating in similar territory – the iSupr8 app for the iPhone.

It's not a million miles away from the other app in theory- shoot video directly from the app, giving it a film-burn just like Super 8 home movies. Once shot, you can watch your video back, save the videos to your camera roll, email them or add to Facebook. There's also the option to use the iPhone's LED spotlight for shooting in the dark.

A video over the page gives you an idea of how it works. Read the reviews of both apps before you go for one, but if you opt for this, it sells for $1.99 or £1.19.

Thumbs Up 1980s-style ‘Brick’ iPhone case

Thumbs

As we seem to be on the verge of re-living the 1980s both politically and economically, you might want to accessorise yourself with something that fits the era – like this Thumbs Up iPhone case.

Yes, not only is it a case to keep your iPhone safe, it also turns your cutting-edge smartphone into one that looks like first generation yuppie's phone. Or Del Boy off Only Fools and Horses if you want a lower-rent comparison.

It still gives you access to all the controls and fits 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation iPhones, as well as giving your mates a laugh. Thing is, they might be laughing at you rather than with you. £12.99 gets you one.

Update: You can now buy one of these online from the Firebox website.

Decoupage Telephone

Normal_IMG_7915

We’ve seen plenty of retro telephones that are shaped like this, but we haven’t seen any decorated in the same way as this Decoupage Telegraph by Viva Fabric.

The classic style phone has been covered in brightly coloured vintage fabric using the decoupage style. The phone itself is still fully functioning, unimpeded by its unusual decoration. It still has its original cream cord and rotary dial.

The phone costs £90 from Viva Fabric on Not on the High Street.

Championship Manager 70s Legends for the iPhone and iPod touch

Cm70s

In a way, I'm surprised it's taken so long – a football manager game with a retro twist. Which is what you get with Championship Manager 70s Legends.

The title says it all, the long-running football manager sim now lets you manage a team full of 1970s legends – so buying the likes of Billy Bremner, Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Pele, Johan Cruyff, and Franz Beckenbauer is just a click away. Not just the players, the rules have changed back to the 70s too, which means the likes of 2 points for a win and 1 substitute only in England.

Choose from seasons 1970/10 through to 1979/80 and various countries, with each season complete with authentic, illustrated news stories from throughout the decade reflecting events as they happened. Available for the iPhone and iPod touch, it sells for £1.79.
