Brionvega 1960s-designed rr227 MP3 radio now available in the UK

Rr227

Ok, you got us – the MP3 format wasn't around in the 1960s. But the Brionvega rr227 radio was – and it's now available in the UK.

We first saw this back in late 2008, a 1965 design from the hands of Zanuso and Sapper, produced to work either horizontally or vertically for your AM/FM listening pleasure.

But the new version adds something new – an MP3 player, which you can feed via miniSD card or USB, playing back MP3 or WMA digital music files. Available in red, white or black, you can finally pick it up instore or online for £185.

Restored 1950s T-12 Urbano telephones at Russell Johnson Imports

Urbano1

Ever heard of the T-12 Urbano telephone? Me neither, but one look at the picture and I was sold. It's not just a pretty face either, with Russell Johnson Imports selling completely reconditioned models online.

The phones were originally designed in the US by Standard Electric in the late 50s, the design being sold around the world through to the mid-60s. These particular models are from Argentina, with original state-owned phones undergoing extensive renovation – new microphones, cartridges and cables, along with a new paint job. Apparently it takes four old phones to create one reconditioned model ready to go.

Crosley Revolution portable record player is the modern-day Sound Burger

Soundburger

Big thanks to Outa Spaceman for pointing out the return of that essential tool for crate diggers everywhere – the Sound Burger. Except the new version isn't called that, instead it goes by the name of the Crosley Revolution portable turntable.

Originally dating to the mid-80s, when it was pitched as portable audio (for people with lots of records and not many cassettes I presume), it took on a new life years later as a small portable vinyl player that's perfect for use in record stores, record fairs and of course, charity shops.

The new version runs on rechargeable batteries, has USB and headphone connectivity and a price that's expected to be well under the £100 mark. Currently being shown off around the trade shows like CES, it will hit the shelves in the summer.

Pure Oasis Flow offers outdoor radio with a retro twist

Pure_flow

At first glance, you could be forgiven for thinking this is something plucked from the Dieter Rams archives of the 1960s. But look closely and you'll see the words Pure Oasis Flow.

It's a modern-day weatherproof and splash resistant radio that's also rechargeable and able to pick up FM, DAB and if you have a network to hand, internet radio, all packed into that stylish white aluminium shell. There's also touchscreen controls, enhanced audio and a crystal clear OLED display which is readable at any angle.

Pure plans to offer the Oasis Flow in the UK in the first half of 2010, price still to be confirmed, but unlikely to cost a fortune.

Polaroid relaunches the OneStep film camera – the PIC 1000

Onestep

Ignoring the wider use of digital snappers, Polaroid has gone all retro on us and announced the reissue of the classic OneStep film camera, now going by the name of the PIC 1000.

In a launch supported by Lady Gaga (now creative director of the company, would you believe), the new version was shown off as pretty much a replica of the old version, throwing out instant snaps with a white border, using classic Polaroid Color 600 Instant Film.

Aside from that, we know little except the camera will be offered in a range of colours and be available widely through 2010. Price? We can't see it breaking the bank.

Celebrity Scales from Snow Home

Scales

Forget those modern scales that scan you and tell you exactly how much excess weight you are carrying, when these old fashioned celebrity scales from Snow Home can instead raise a smile when you step on them.

Instead of weighing yourself in pounds or kilos you can find out if you are the same weight as Big Daddy or Roseanne. There is a musical version too where you can compare your weight to, amongst others, Prince or Pavarotti.

They probably won't start using these at Weight Watchers, but at least if someone asks you how much you weigh you can enigmatically say "the same at Rolf Harris"!

Buy them for £29 at Snow Home.
