Café Lamp

Redcafelamp

If the Giant Flower Pot Pendant Lamp featured last week is just too big, both physically and price-wise, then how about this Café Lamp?

Available in a choice of red, cream or silver, the style suggests 1950s cafes. The lamps are made by a family-run Welsh metal spinning company that used to specialise in making miners lamps but is now turning this expertise to making lighting fixtures.

The lamps cost £46.50 and are supplied with a rose and wire, from Pedlars.

Zandra Rhodes homeware range for M&S

Zandra

Zandra Rhodes remains one of Britain's most recognisable figures, as well known for her appearance as for her colourful textile designs. Her homeware range for M&S is a slight surprise in that its black and white colour scheme makes it looks quite restrained. However, the design reflects Zandra's ongoing interest in all things organic and the lively floral design looks a lot wilder (and also more interesting) than many other naturally inspired homeware designs on offer on the high street.

The range costs from £6, with this teapot costing £25.

Vintage stamps wallpaper by Catherine Hammerton

Stamps wallpaper

Here's something to appeal to any hidden philatelists: a vintage stamps wallpaper. The wallpaper, made by Catherine Hammerton, is printed with images of vintage stamps from around the world.

Receiving letters is an increasing rarity and this design is a reminder of just how appealing old stamps can be. The muted colours of the photographic print makes for an attractive pattern, whether or not you choose to study the stamps in detail. The paper will set you back quite a bit more than the price of a first class stamp however with a 10 metre roll costing £179.

Yellow Submarine Shower Curtain

SS-image-2009-10-08-4ace14d1dbb92

As bathroom décor often tends towards aquatic themes, a Yellow Submarine Shower Curtain isn’t an entirely surprising idea.

The curtain has been designed by Dutch designer Jan Habraken rather than using illustrations from the Beatles film, but the design is similar enough for the reference to be obvious. The submarine along with some psychedelic flowers are drawn in white outline against the yellow shower curtain.  Perhaps a design featuring an Octopus' Garden will follow?

Priced £14.99, it is available to buy from England at Home.

Hunter Floor Lamp from John Lewis

Hunter

The Hunter Floor Lamp from John Lewis was definitely designed with a nod to the furniture of the 50's. The tripod base with metal tips is very 'Festival of Britain' the only difference being the use of steel rather than brass, which gives the lamp a clean contemporary edge.

Adorned with a clean white fabric shade the Hunter has quite a masculine feel to it, and the only downside I can see is that it would actually need more floorspace than other floor lamps designs due to the tripod base.

For those with acres of space the lamp can be bought for £195 from John Lewis.
