Kaleido bed set

Kaleidoset_m

Looking for an 80s look for your bed that doesn't involve referencing your favourite TV programme or computer game from that period? Well, the Kaleido bed set is covered with a very simple geometric pattern made up of triangles but its colour scheme of greys, blacks and orange gives it an 80s feel. It's also made from 100% cotton with a suitably grown-up 200 thread count.

Even better is that it's currently in the sale. Prices now range from £32.50 for a single bed set up to £50 for a super king bed.

Britpop wallpaper at Wallpaper Space

Britpop-Vintage-product

If Noel Gallagher is looking to do a spot of decorating to take his mind off the Oasis split, he may well be interested in this Britpop wallpaper from Wallpaper Space. Not only does it revive that 1990s era when he was at his peak in popularity but of course, by default, it reflects Britpop's obsession with the sixties. Handily it also fits well with the trend for union jack patriotism that's going on in interior design right now.

The wallpaper is printed with newspaper stories from the nineties, superimposed with union jack patterned shapes of dogs, phone boxes, minis and (especially for you Noel) guitars. The paper is shown in its most traditional red, white and blue colour way above but also comes in, what Wallpaper Space describes as poptastic pink, camouflage green, urban grey or liquorice black. All the papers have a matt finish.

The paper costs £55 a roll from the Wallpaper Space website

Newgate Postmaster Architectural Wall Clock

934055_m

The Newgate Postmaster Architectural Wall Clock features photographs of vintage door numbers printed on posterboard squares.

Each number is in a different style which adds character to this timepiece. You then have the option of fixing the posterboard numbers on the wall in whatever way you like, although I would suggest that the tried and tested method of having the 12 at the top and the 6 at the bottom is probably still the best layout.

The clock is available to buy from Beth Stevens priced £45.

Vivienne Westwood Trompe L’Oeil Drape Wallpaper

Vwtartanwallpaper

Wallpapers inspired by the Fifties, Sixties and art deco style are ten a penny, but I think this is the first I’ve come across inspired by the punk aesthetic. The Trompe L‘Oeil Drape wallpaper has been designed by Vivienne Westwood for Cole & Son.

The wallpaper features her trademark tartan with the trompe ‘oeil effect making it look like folded fabric. It is sold in wide width panels measuring 270cm by 270cm, which isn’t for the faint-hearted.

No prices are given, but you can search for your nearest stockist on the Cole & Son website.

Padgett delft rug from the Designers Guild

Padgett-delft-rug-full

The Padgett delft rug from the Designer Guild is another design that seems to look to the 1960s and '70s in its design. The bold geometric pattern doesn't look dissimilar to some of David Hicks' numbers from that period. That's no bad thing and the Designer Guild seem to have realised that too as they've also used the pattern on a black throw and, in various colourways, on wallpaper.

The pattern arguably looks the most sophisticated on this rug which measures 160 x 260cm and is a wool and viscose mix. The sophistication costs however: in this case £695.

Private Cloud Rocking Bed

2-25-bed3

Whilst retro-patterned bed sets aren’t difficult to come by, bed design tends to be a more limited field. However, here is an interesting design, which although new, looks as if it came from a mid-century designer.

The Rocking Bed has been created by a Germany company called Private Cloud. Quite simply it combines the best elements of the rocking chair and the bed, Their website describes the soothing properties of rocking as well as reassurances that the bed can be stablised while you sleep and it can’t be overturned.

I’m sold on the idea, but given it is shape, you would need a large bedroom as well as a similarly large wallet with the Rocking Bed costing between 5400 and 6700 Euros depending on the size. If you have the space and the money, visit the Private Cloud website for more information.
