Barneby Gates is a new company that brings together the talents of Vogue Living Editor, Vanessa Barneby and textile designer, Alice Gates. Although a new venture, their designs have a decidedly nostalgic quality given a contemporary twist. This is particularly apparent in the "This Other Eden" Wallpaper.

The wallpaper features a collage of vintage British scenes taken from original 19th and 20th century photographs. The original sepia images have been given a beautiful vintage gold finish, which apparently the photographs don’t do justice to.

It costs £59 per roll and can be ordered directly from Barneby Gates. They will also send an A4 sample of any wallpaper so you can see it properly before you commit to buying.

The Heal's 1950s style Boom Boom sofa is a good looking alternative to some of the plastic-wicker monstrosities that are presented for use in sun rooms or conservatories. It's made from woven water hyacinth, available either in fresh green or the natural colour shown here, which combined with the cotton cushion gives the sofa a light and elegant feel. 
The gentle curves of the back and the seat are complemented by the rounded legs though it's a quite imposing size at 191cm wide. The best news is that it's currently in Heal's sale where it is reduced to £555.

Sometimes simple pieces can be very effective in conveying the mood of a period such as this 70s Inspired Lamp.

The simple design consists of a glass base in a soft smoky shade of brown, topped off with a brown shade. Its colour, shape and choice of materials al give it that decidedly Seventies look.

The Bonox Alarm Clock has been inspired by vintage clock designs.

Available in a choice of black & white or apple green plastic, the minute and hour hands glow in the dark. It also features an oversized button on the top to make it easy it turn off to give yourself a few extra minutes in bed.

There is probably just enough summer time left to make it worth purchasing the “From Russia with Love” Deckchair.

The heavy duty cotton fabric sling is printed with a classic book cover design. The frame is made from FSC wood, so it is environmentally sound as well as a great design. There is a “The Spy who Loved Me” deckchair available too.
