Adidas 1972 Olympia trainers

Adidas_olympia

Actually, the Adidas Olympia trainers were first seen in 1964, but the version now available in stores is based on the more commonly seen 1972 version.

Indeed, it’s more or less an exact copy of the 1972 Olympia and in the same colourway, made from a leather and nubuck combination, with perforated detail and white synthetic sole.

A pair will set you back £65.

Waterloo’s Robert Crumb-designed Creem t-shirt

Creem
Cult artist/illustrator Robert Crumb was paid $50 for the Creem magazine logo. But you can pick up the Waterloo Creem t-shirt for around half that price.

If you didn’t know, Creem was a US music monthly, started in 1969 and credited with inventing the terms ‘punk rock’ and ‘heavy metal’, as well as giving early exposure to a host of legendary artists, bands and movements including The Stooges, MC5, Roxy Music, David Bowie, punk  and US college rock.

Now defunct – but you can show off your musical knowledge by wearing the t-shirt, available in three colourways as well as male/female sizes and available to pre-order now. It sells for $22.45 (around £12), with shipping from 31st March.

Nike Vintage Elite 1970s trainers

Nike_vintage

More sportswear from the archives, this time the Nike Vintage Elite trainers.

It’s an authentic and lightweight 1970s shoe – initially introduced for running, but that nylon and suede upper was eventually seen more on the streets than the athletics track.

Plenty of colourways available and as a nice touch, Nike is selling this in an original 70s-style presentation box. A pair will cost you £50.

Adidas launches Daley Thompson-inspired Great Britain hoody

Adidas_daley In the UK at least, there seemed to be a golden era of athletics in the 80s, with just about all the leading competitors (not just British ones) being household names. Even with an Olympics coming up, I still can’t name any of the current British team – but I do remember the stars of my childhood, headed up by legendary decathlete Daley Thompson.

And so does Adidas it seems, with the launch of its Great Britain hoody. It’s based on the gear worn by Thompson in his 80s heyday, complete with Union Jack logo and hood, as well as all the period Adidas detailing.

Personally, I don’t think I could pull it off. But if you’re on the look out for some 80s nostalgia for your wardrobe, you can pick up one of these for £60.
