Another archive trainer gets a dust down and a return to the shelves, this time the New Balance 410.
We’re back to the 1980s here, with the classic running shoe back in the shops in leather and suede, with a contrast ‘N’ on the side. It’s also available in a range of colours, the brown featured here.
I noticed recently that Simon Carter is now doing a fashion line that’s very late 60s influenced, but he’s still probably best know for his cufflinks and watches. Indeed, if you’re after that old favourite – the Target Cufflinks – he’s got a pair on sale right now.
Just as you’d imagine – enamel target design with silver metallic clip. But as he’s a man with a reputation in the field, you can be sure they’re well made.
More retro footwear from Puma, this time a reissue of the Puma Argentina – and they’re very limited.
The original shoe was released in 1978 as a ‘thank you’ to the 10 Argentina players that wore Puma during their World Cup win. The trainers themselves were picked up on the terraces in Europe, before fading away. They’re back now in blue and in very limited numbers – just 240 pairs worldwide, each one sold with a limited edition fanzine of the history of the Argentina national side.
Feeling nostalgic for Manchester’s most famous club? Well, you can get that bit closer to the Hacienda with these Adidas/Y-3 FAC 51 Hacienda trainers, created to celebrate the club’s 25th anniversary. Doesn’t that make you feel old?
Y-3 is an Adidas design offshoot, with these shoes being the work of Factory graphic designer Peter Saville, Hac interior designer Ben Kelly and New Order’s Peter Hook. They’re sold in a six-sided, maple-bottomed box (reflecting the Hacienda’s dancefloor) and wrapped in four sheets of tissue paper – two featuring Kevin Cummins’ photography of the club, one with original design sketches of the interior and a fourth featuring the building today. There’s also a DVD thrown in featuring anecdotes of the club from those involved.
As for the shoes? Well, you can judge for yourselves from the image above. Not cheap at £345, but there’s only 250 pairs available from Y-3 Manchester and Selfridges in London, so a collector’s scrum is guaranteed.
Another limited edition product from 20ltd and more from the Oliver Goldsmith archive collection – the Oliver Goldsmith 1968 Mistinguett men’s sunglasses.
And these are limited, just 20 pairs will be made, so you’re pretty sure of being the only person on the beach with a pair. As the name suggests, these first appeared in 1968 and are recreated here in hand-carved Asian black horn to the same design, with each pair numbered.
Sold in a black box with matching black leather hard case, they’re not cheap at £680, but certainly exclusive.
There seems to be a lot of Ramones-related merchandise doing the rounds these days – but with most of the band dead, I guess there’s very little in the way of objection. Converse are the latest company to jump on this particular bandwagon, producing the Ramones-themed Converse Chuck Taylor.
The Red Chuck Taylor (to give it the official name) are made of distressed denim – just like the brothers’ jeans. It also features a Ramones logo ankle patch on one side, with the Converse logo on the other, as well as the band name embroidered on the tongue and Converse ‘Red’ detailing.
You can pick them up on the Converse site for $61.99 (around £32).
