Lego Space Shuttle Expedition set

Space_shuttle

It might have ceased flying this year, but the Space Shuttle will always be an icon of the 80s, when it changed the face of space travel. It could change the face of a wet Sunday afternoon too if you invest in the Lego Space Shuttle Expedition set, especially if you have kids to entertain.

Yes, you can recreate the craft, with a Lego version standing at standing 44cm tall and around 25.5cm from wing tip to wing tip. The model features realistic engines, retractable landing gear, an opening cockpit with seats for two astronauts, opening cargo compartment with a crane that can hold the satellite and a ground maintenance vehicle. There are also three minifigures – one male, one female and a service crew member.

All of which needs building, which might be trickier than you imagine. if you want it, you can buy it from the online Lego store for £81.99.

1980s Puma Bluebird trainers reissued

Blue1

A gem from the 1980s reissued, with these Puma Bluebird trainers certain to be of particular interest to Cardiff City supporters.

Why? Well, the colour scheme for the two reissues (the other pictured over the page) are inspired by the home and away colours of Cardiff City. Who are, of course, nicknamed The Bluebirds – and whose fans took up these shoes 'back in the day'.

Anyway, aside from that, this 1982 trainer, originally a lightweight running shoe, has a suede upper, leather lining, a natural colour injection moulded PVC sole and a gold foil decal. Both pairs retail for £65.

Red Ditsy Floral Print Vanity Case at Topshop

Topshop1

Big thanks to Soo Miles, who spotted this Red Ditsy Floral Print Vanity Case at Topshop and shared her find with us. We're now sharing it with you.

It is pretty much what it says, a vintage-style vanity case with a retro floral pattern and equally period 'grab' handle, fastener and trim (the latter matching the handle). Open it up and you'll see the Topshop label, which gives the game away a bit, but we don't think that matters too much.

Want one? You can secure one online for £45. See a shot of the case open over the page.

Midcentury-inspired Oliver Rocker by & Then Design

Oliver

It's a design team we have mentioned before, specifically with its lounge chair and cabinet collection, but the Oliver Rocker by & Then Design has slipped under our radar for some reason.

Not anymore, here it is. Inspired by 1950s Scandinavian design, this midcentury-style gem is available in both beech (pictured above) and oak, with the frame created using traditional woodworking techniques. Once complete, it is finished off with an upholstered cushion with a deep-buttoned pattern.

A timeless piece, that's for sure, it's priced from £860.

eBay watch: Original 1950s midcentury plant stand

Plant

A few of these appear on eBay and are always popular. But this original 1950s midcentury plant stand comes with a very low starting price.

Whether you use it for your plants or ornaments, it's still an eye-catching piece. The main triangular table is made of chipboard and finished with a cream Formica top with a gold and black plastic rim. The table also has three removable wooden feet placed at a slight angle, a wooden stem and three small platforms each made of chipboard with Formica tops.

The Plant Stand is described as being 'in very good vintage condition', with some 'age related scratches and marks' on the Formica tops, but nothing significant. Just 99p right now.

“A Visual Compendium of Notable Haircuts in Popular Music” Print

Haircutsprint_main_b_434x581
Pop Chart Lab’s mission is to render the world in the form of charts, covering a wide range of popular culture subjects, my favourite being this one.

“A Visual Compendium of Notable Haircuts in Popular Music” is a limited edition print that as the name clearly states offers illustrations of music’s most memorable styles. The illustrations are just of the hair (including facial hair where applicable) without faces, but they are all pretty easy to recognise – although initial and surname are given below just in case. As you would expect McCartney’s mop top, Ziggy Stardust era Bowie and Morrissey’s quiff are in there, but with plenty of others too. The print measures 18 by 24 inches and has been signed by the artists.

Buy it online from the Pop Chart Lab priced $25.
