Hoo Hoo Owl Clock

Hoohooclock
Whilst we can’t claim the Hoo Hoo Owl Clock as a design classic (unlike George Nelson’s Omar Owl clock from his Zootimer range), it still has a certain charm.

It is named after the sound that apparently owls make in Sweden, where the clock is made. It is made from acrylic with a walnut finish so it won’t look out of place amongst your midcentury style furniture.

The clock costs £25 from HunkyDory Home.

Modern Vintage Style by Emily Chalmers

Modern-vintage-style-book

Emily Chalmers, owner of East London boutique Caravan, has brought together her love of vintage bits & bobs with her flair for interior design to create Modern Vintage Style, a compendium of pick & mix retro style.

The book is full to bursting with inspiring ideas; mixing flea market finds, traditional crafts, vintage fabrics and other retro goodies with more modern pieces, accomplishing an eclectic, homely look that just works. Perhaps not the best book for vintage purists, but perfect for those who like to mix up their eras & styles.

£11.69 on Amazon. See the website for more details.

Official Mad Men Collection at Banana Republic now available

Madmen1

We flagged it up some time back, but now it looks like the first items in the official Mad Men Collection are now available to buy online at Banana Republic.

The items have landed in the US store (which does international shipping), with clothing and accessories for both men and women designed by Janie Bryant, who designed the costumes for the TV show.

Some examples above and over the page. Above, you can see the lace tipped dress, with short sleeves, a draped neckline, a lace trim at neck and hem, invisible back zip and vented back hem. That sells for $150. The other is the lace dress, which has cap sleeves, a boat neckline and invisible back zip. $130 for that.

Grizzly knit cardigan

Cardi
Grandma chic has found a whole new level with this grizzly knit cardigan.

Although it's still August the weather is telling a different story and while trying to enjoy the last days of summer a warm, woolly cardigan might be in order. This is a perfect match and it even looks smart enough to wear to work. It's very warm and toasty and the metal studs make it slightly less likely to appear on your Grandma.

It's expensive but it will last so head out and get one from French Connection for £97.

eBay watch: Austin Mini 1988 Mary Quant Designer Edition

Quant

There are a couple of these on eBay right now (you can see the other and cheaper one here), but we've opted for this Austin Mini Mary Quant Designer Edition because, quite simply, it looks a better car.

Both have been reconditioned though, so both worth a look if you are after one of these cars, which are certainly becoming more collectible as the years pass. This one, from 1988, has been significantly restored without affecting the original design, with parts and labour put at about £2,000. See the listing for a breakdown of upgrades.

Mileage is 70,500, condition is said to be 'excellent' and the Quant interior is intact. The bidding right now is £1,019. Lots of images on the listing page.
