The Art of Being a Well-Dressed Wife by Anne Fogarty

Well dressed

Looking for some authentic 1950s fashion advice? You may want to pick up a copy of The Art of Being A Well Dressed Wife which was written in 1959 by American fashion design Anne Fogarty.

The book is being reprinted by the V&A as part of their series of retro style guides which also features works by the likes of Dior, Hardy Amies and Edith Head. It details what to wear on every occasion, from travelling to entertaining to sporting events – even how to match your car to your outfit!

The book is cloth bound and contains both Fogarty's original illustrations and period photographs from John French. Offering a fascinating, if somewhat terrifying, insight into the period, it's surely the ideal gift for any retro bride-to-be.

The book is available for £6.49 from Amazon

Typetable Poster

Typetables
Prints featuring ABCs are pretty common, but less so prints of that other touchstone of childhood learning – times tables.

The Typetable Poster not only lists the times tables 1 to 12, guaranteed to bring back memories of school, but it combines them different typography. Each number has a different font and the dates and creator of the font are listed with it.

It is available exclusively from Pedlars, priced just under £25 unframed.

Giant Starburst Clock

Starburst-clock-umbra
We have featured a few starburst-style clocks in the past, but this one trumps them all – in terms of size at least.

The Giant Starburst Clock by Umbra is made from moulded wood, with a bronze finish. The hands are in contrasting white.  And the clock’s all important size? 61cm in diameter!

Stylish Living is selling the clock for £117.43 which seems a reasonable price, considering how much clock you get for your money.

Adidas London City Series trainers get new blue suede finish

London

Once a rarity from the Adidas archive, then reissued as a limited edition as part of the City Series reissue program, the Adidas London trainers have now appeared in at least five different colour options, with the latest being this blue suede finish.

The shape is as you expect, a slimline, fairly low shoe with perforated tongue and contrasting slim gum sole, with the London lettering in gold. The difference here is that colour, a blue suede upper, with contrasting blue detailing for the stripes and heel.

Limited numbers, they're priced at £56.99.
